WELCOME TO ACATALEPSY It happens in the blink of an eye. One moment, you are home. Perhaps you are with your family, perhaps you are at work. It's a completely normal day . . . and then, suddenly, your stomach drops. You are overcome with a sudden sense of vertigo. You cannot see up, or down, or where you are. And once that moment is over, you fall flat on your face. It's sunny, warm, with the tickling of glass. It takes a few moments for you to gain composure, to catch your breath. When you open your eyes, no one is there. You are surrounded by ancient stone buildings, with carvings you do not recognize etched into the stone. The place looks deserted, with crumbling architecture, remnants of clothing strewn all over the place... as if a natural disaster walked through, and no one was around to clean up the aftermath. There's a sense of nausea, overwhelming and sudden, when you realize you aren't in Kansas anymore. JOIN THE CIRCLE Acatalepsy is a plot-driven survival/fantasy RPG. Your character was pulled, involuntarily, through a gap in the universe known as the Void, and you have arrived here against your will... seemingly by accident. Your canon powers do not work, nor do your magical items. However, you seem to have been granted some strange new ability... a magic power previously granted by the Temple's former benefactor, Astoria, has now been passed onto you by the Temple itself. That gift can be anything from creating fire to creating spontaneous birthday cakes to rain from the sky for about an hour. How this magical ability is granted to you properly, Kathashun has no idea... but it seems to be working, so there's that, at least? Your primary objective, now, is to survive. The Temple is in shambles and it seems as if you do not have a lot of ready-made food. You need to find shelter, but Kathashun warns you not to get too comfortable. Your first mission as a member of the Circle awaits, and it seems the only way to get home is to find someone powerful enough to send you there. Hang on tight, and good luck. You're gonna need it. Like sure, it is a dumb as hell plot, but it is essentially just straight up a journal rp jamjar game plot on it's own with no modifications.

Hey anons, I’m thinking of playing a character who isn’t the best of people, and I’m not talking about murder or killing hundreds of people. This character sexually assaults someone in his canon, but the canon itself seems to still portray him sympathetically. He isn’t treated like a villain. You see a lot of fans either minimizing this assault or explaining it away as him not being in a good mental place. In other words, they’re apologists.

When writing an app for a character like this, what is the best way to handle it? Do you brush over the assault like the canon/fandom seems to treat it? Or do you incorporate more of your own interpretation of the character to it?

In my opinion this guy is trash, but I enjoy playing villains in general even if the canon’s narrative doesn’t write him as such. Obviously if I’m bringing this character to a game, he’s not going to be jumping anyone (definitely wouldn’t play out that in a game), and if it makes a difference I’m taking him from a canon point prior to him being a scumbag.

looking to play a ship where two characters who once had an intense relationship reunite later and discover that all the attraction is still there. all my active characters are women so f/m and f/f are both fine. it can be sweet or it can be messy, even to the point of disrupting existing relationships. ideally it's both.

a little about me: i'm terribly picky when it comes to castmates, and because my standard is unreasonably high i've learned to manage my expectations both when it comes to ic characterization/writing quality and castmember personalities - especially because right now i play from a mega popular canon that sometimes attracts not-so-great writers, in a mega popular game.

except right now....... my cast is so amazing, guys. please believe me when i gush that they are fucking legitimately GOD TIER. not only is the cast filled with incredible writers who know their characters inside and out and blow me away with the nuances of every tag, but they're also super chill and great to hang and plot with OOCly.

just... i am so, so grateful and happy, having been in not-so-great situations rp-wise before. i wish i could link you guys to each and every one of them so they could get the attention they deserve but i know better than to namedrop on rpanons haha

venting: player entitlement

coming back to dwrp after a while as a player and... my dudes, it's insane the amount of entitlement people have toward mods.

"they didn't do this fast enough!!"

"they didn't do this smart enough!!"

"they didn't do this in a way that fits my preferences and best benefits my character!!"

guys, these are unpaid volunteers creating a fun space with tons of documentation, maintenance, and coordination for your personal enjoyment. either understand that and cut them some slack on not being perfect paragons who can dedicate their entire life to the cause, or if you genuinely think they're abusing their position of power, then leave. make your own game and try it yourself, because trust me - it's crazy difficult and taxing, even without people publicly second-guessing every decision.

and don't even get me started on how most mods are anon these days specifically because their reputations can get ruined so quickly just for trying to run a game...... for other people. jesus.

i'm happy to play with absolutely anyone on memes, but it's obnoxious when people clearly only tag you because of a thread you've had on the same meme with one of their friends, and all their threads are basically references to said friend's character, in-jokes and other cliquey behavior. if you want to circlejerk over your friend's character so much, no need to drag me, a perfect rando, into it. i'm more interested in having threads focused at least 50% on our characters. didn't realize that was so much to ask these days.

i basically never make network posts, but it would ic for this character, so what sorts of things make you more/less likely to tag a network post? how do you toe the line between too generic and too canon-specific?

do:
- pose a question to the audience, give people something to respond to
- think about "realism". would (and can) your character actually film themselves doing this? would they actually write out their weird accent? would they use emojis or whatever?
- browse the recent network posts. are you just going to be repeating what someone else has already asked? find something new to talk about. pick something about the setting to discuss. "has anyone seen that weird store with the year-round Christmas decorations", stuff like that.

don't:
- use it like a diary. nobody cares and it's awkward to comment on. keep that stuff in your inbox.
- do stuff like "here's a long shot of my character staring into the camera while injured/bloodied"/fishing for "u ok hun" posts. sure, they work occasionally, but mostly they're boring and cringy.
- use it just to talk to your cr. inboxes are made for that shit.
- comment on other people's posts just to be an asshole. sure it's IC for your character to cuss people out for smoking on camera but do you really have to do it every time? etc
