i guess i've also never really thought of meme threads as having shared continuity. i've had psls or meme threads linking into each other when playing with one person and one set of characters, but i've never really rped situations on memes where other characters knew or were impacted by a thread i had with another character. is that common on memes?

i know it is on games, of course, where the assumption is that characters keep informed of their social group, but i always defaulted to meme threads taking place in a sort of vacuum, unless discussed otherwise.

by default yeah memes tend to happen in a vacuum/discontinuity. i've only very rarely kept continuity between same characters in memes when i know the players in question. or get to know them through memes and ask via pm first.

that's been my experience too. if we want to do a string of meme threads or to psl over meme posts, that's perfectly fine by me. i'd typically do that after dropping a pm or quick comment to make sure everyone's on the same page.

if i tag the same character multiple times i tend to assume they at least know each other. who wants to play meeting/intro shit every time?

sorry, i think maybe i wasn't clear. i meant that i'd assume meme thread continuity with the player of character A, whom i've tagged before — but i would never assume castmate B would know or refer to my meme thread with character A in our own separate meme thread, unless this was discussed privately. i'd always just think of my meme threads with A and B as being isolated from each other (again, unless something else was discussed privately).

oops i may have read you comment wrong, sorry. in that case it is pretty weird and def not standard/normal. i've had something similar crop up on d_m but only after there was silly threadjacking going on and everyone was tagging each other.

i've had that happen one time and i pm'd them and told them i had no idea what they were talking about and not to drag their previous cr/meme tags with someone i didn't know into a thread i had with them, because they're sort of essentially asking you to go read their rping with someone else to catch up. i don't want to. it's a meme. no one does that shit.

i definitely get keeping one on one continuity and carrying on sort of personal cr-lines from one meme to the next (or dragging it into a musebox), but memes aren't games. i'm not required to read thread in them i'm not involved in and i don't want to. i don't care about a and b's thread that happened in an au meme when i'm playing c with b. it has nothing to do with me and assuming it should is dumb. it's one thing if you're part of a group of people having a cluster play on memes together, but from a complete stranger? Or even a friend who hasn't asked you about it beforehand? nah, bro.
