Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

I need someone to convince me right now that I can't just harvest Metal Gear Survive to make a game.

Like sure, it is a dumb as hell plot, but it is essentially just straight up a journal rp jamjar game plot on it's own with no modifications.

Anon.

Have you SEEN how many games have closed up shop recently? NOW is the PRIME TIME for making a new game. Where are all of those homeless rpers going to go now??? Your game, that's where.

But you've got to act fast, before someone else does. Seize the moment, anon!!!!

I feel like we're always complaining about sci-fi/horror games so adding another feels questionable among all the closures.

On the other hand it makes more sense to jamjar than trying to make an excuse to set a game on an oil rig in the middle of the ocean.

People are always whining about the existence of any genre they don't like. It doesn't mean another game in that genre is a bad idea, just that people are more inclined to bitch about things they aren't into existing than find things they are into.

A game based on the podcast Sayer. A new technology started pulling people from other worlds to help staff the facilities on Typhon (an asteroid repurposed into a research station that orbits earth). But they cannot let on that they are not from Earth (or from a different earth) to the native residents. They can communicate with each other, and with the sadistic AI in charge of the facility.

Could either be legit pulling people in from other worlds or populating a virtual simulation with characters from various media sources. Either way, heavy elements of psychological and regular horror, lots of death and reviving, and heavy sci-fi elements.

I am not gonna lie, I binged Sayer a few weeks ago and just kept thinking how great a jamjar it would make.

SA

Thinking on this some more, season 5 of Sayer actually made a plot point of not reviving people from the dead. So that would have to be addressed. If the characters are AI simulations, that's a good explanation. Otherwise, there would probably be some drama between the overseeing NPCs regarding the situation. Well, or death could just be permanent and count as dropping the character, but that would mean going through a lot of characters. Which would be interesting also, but would dissuade people from putting their characters into dangerous situations.

inspired by aquila rift/ love, death & robots:

characters are drawn into a world (not necessarily space oriented) where it's your basic jam jar. an excuse is given as to why they're there, maybe a false promise of eventual release or nothing. but they meet other people pulled from their universes and a bit like the matrix, the world starts off as a utopia but then because of the needs of those inside it, starts having conflict to keep the minds occupied

it'd be a very short first phase of a game depending on what people do icly - if they solve the clues and plot, they progress. if not - well, you've seen the episode? (for those who have not: they begin to realize something's wrong with their world, when it flickers to something post apocalyptic, the "Real World" showing through. They were caught in a spider-web like vortex where a being feeds off their resources but is benevolent and lets them dream scenarios until they eventually die.)

so obviously if nobody finds a solution, in say the first phase which can be 3-4 months in length... it's bad end. if not, cue forward moving plot and actual survival game as people try to navigate the REAL world after dealing with false hope and escaping it.

characters dropped can technically "die" and have a new version be brought in from another version of their homeworld if they are apped again, or re-apps would be considered a glitch, etc, maybe they re-join with a hint of plot/ same goes for hiatuses.

ideas on the main setting of the game would be appreciated. the original takes place in a space ship in that web like thing called the rift, but a planet-based world is possible too.

Hell, I’d play in it, I had a similar game idea a couple years ago I haven’t had the chance to build.

If the first batch or so of characters get out, maybe app cycles afterward could be them freeing new characters into the “real world”? I would personally recommend a planet setting, just so you have more options to play with. I’ve been in spaceship/space station horror games and they get very same-y after a while

I'm really into this idea! That said, to me, the first phase sounds a lot funner than the second.

I can appreciate the idea of a forward moving plot, but man... The first phase is literally "psychological-thriller/escape game where your entire perception of reality is being controlled by some cosmic spider being"! Those are some mighty big shoes to fill. Not sure if second phase's post-apocalyptic survival plot could hold up to that without a little bit more of an angle.

something voltron-themed/inspired where characters' worlds are threatened by the galra empire (or some facsimile thereof) and characters are chosen to pilot giant robots that can fuse into even gianter robots to defend the universe

everybody gets assigned to a team based on what's needed where (are you the sneaky guy that pilots the green robot, the leader guy that pilots the black robot, etc.) and in between missions all the teams can mingle at the base or whatever

either that or a zoids-themed game where people pilot robot lions in tournament battles. dammit i just want a robot game but they always get infested with neckbeards and die of stupid

I sort of want a game based off of gacha. Not, like, a specific gacha game but gacha games in general.

Why are your characters here?? They were drawn from the gacha now shut up and do this swimsuit event.

Maybe with some sort of IC rarity system for power nerfing: "I don't care if you nearly wiped out humanity, you're only a three-star."

Characters try to go home by pulling a gacha themselves but the rates are abysmal. Every time they nearly give up they get one good thing (a gift from home, a power-up, etc) that drags them back in.

But I know we're not really in the era of goofy/meta games these days. :(

that'd make a hilarious idea for a meme or dressing room if not a full fledged game!
