So is this game dying? Even the mods seen really preoccupied with their other games and last month's tdm was almost as weak as the app numbers. It's really been dwindling these past few months and we don't seem to be getting nearly as many apps as drops and new players don't seem to last. At this rate I'd be surprised if the game makes it to next year unless there's some really great tasks, plots, and people stop being absent or half-assed while focusing on other games...

seems fine to me. july had a lot of apps. the current event thread has tons of tagging going on. august was just a slow app round. it happens.

I think it's going through a slower shift but there's still a lot of activity and a lot of characters. I'm more concerned about the mod changes, in that I'm not sure if there are enough people applying for head mod positions. It's understandable to not want to. I sure didn't because I don't have the capacity but it would really suck if the game shuts down because of that.

Here is hoping that with the apps going bi-monthly that it encourages people to app for mods and prompt/writing mods because the workload is less in the long run. And they need the help.

It's going to make things worse. People like to app when they want, not wait a month for it. A month is a long time in RP and goes with that idea of slow-burn never getting to the point of being on fire because it took so long to get there, or would have.

What they need to do is have apps open for at least a week if not two, post the Cr meme either after new apps or at the end of the month for the next one, post the tdm at a normal time so it didn't die randomly before the app scuffle starts. Look how backwards it is compared to literally every other game. Is not even just flakes and shiny chasers that will lose interest in apping. I'm a long term Empath player and this is making me figure I should app who I've been planning to add to another game now. Between this, the mods being more active in other games (with the same people they were here) and their drops along with this months AC results with that extremely long strike list shows why they new player and character apps have been dwindling and that my app will likely be a waste of time for me since I didn't make it this month I'll have to go next etc.

There are a lot of things that are being held onto for the sake of "we've been running it this way for so long that we're not changing it" that the things they are planning to change make no sense in the long run. The timing of the way things are set up really are choking the player base sense of time and what they feel they have time to play with. Especially because of the scheduling and tags not counting for AC.

Probably. It takes them days to link it on RPA and sometimes a week or more to sticky it.

Why not link the TDM on RPA yourself if it really bothers you that much? There's nothing in the rules anywhere that says it has to come from the mod account or that it has to be within the same day of it going up.

a lot of the drops have been people who were barely active or extremely cliquey so it's not like they were much of a loss to the game, just saying.

no but there is a really obvious inner circle they never break out of. i can't remember the last time i saw any of their characters post anything open. or even put themselves on the cr meme. or tag out and not drop the thread. heck i've even attempted to get threads out of some of them by contacting them personally and it was so much effort to maintain cr because they always expected me to come to them that i gave up.

if that's how they wanna be then that's how they'll be but they should expect to be called out on it.

the cr meme in this game has been a waste of time for about 2 years now. like 1/20th of the game posts to it and no one who does actually tags out. it's nothing unique to the mods.

as someone who was in a much, much larger game for a much longer time than the mods have been in emp, i definitely can understand how tough it can be! not just as a mod but in a game long-term in general!

however the mods tend to app in new/er characters in semi-regularly that they don't open to new cr anyway, don't post anything open. i've seen the mods and some old blood players like the voltrons and ff crew and i'm going to add in steven stone since he's basically an ff oc with pokemon now will post closed top levels at every event and very rarely make something open- that's actually closed because it's written in a way that isn't encouraging of new cr and/or is dropped immediately or never replied to. the knb cast existed to themselves alone and a few select mods/mod friends.

they're also extremely active elsewhere. if the mods and other old blood players were half as active in the game as they are just on the prisma tdm alone there wouldn't be much of an issue. the setting isn't boring. what about steampunk technomancer is boring especially when you add exploring and playing out the tasks? i think it's hard because the only people playing the tasks out are usually people in their cliques and not actually plotting to do them outside of them or be open to it.

when a whole cast drops together and apps/reserves together it's a clique. when those casts include the mods, it's a mod clique. especially if they aren't playing in their game or using a setting that could really be fun and genuinely isn't that far off from the sparkly new sandbox. just stop being lazy and shake things up and tag out. people you want to come to this game aren't going to if you aren't active AND you make new stagnating bullshit rules like above. that these rules are coming into play around the autumn holidays is extra dumb.

i'm going to give it a bit longer but i feel like this rant has almost talked me into dropping because i don't think there will be any change for the positive with or without new mods!

you put into words better than i could the frustration I had been feeling in emp up until i dropped. getting cr is like pulling teeth, whether it's with the mods or the older players who consist of a big chunk of the game.

the cr memes being dead for as long as they have been are pretty clear that no one in this game wants new CR.

i've tried to get cr with some of the mods. multiple times. i've reached out, offered to write starters, tossed plot ideas at them, but then my tags got left sitting for days while i watched them boomerang their friends in other threads. it's very clear that they only care about playing with their little clique and are just paying lip service to any other cr.

Something that really bothers me about all this clique talk is that it forces the assumption that everyone involved is an arrogant shit who doesn't want to tag outside their buttbuddies at all under any circumstances. In some cases that's certainly true, and I've absolutely seen it in some of the mods here. There are a couple of them I've stopped trying to get CR with also, as trying to break into the clique isn't worth the effort for the experience I get when they do play with me.

However, I've been on the other side of it, too. I'm one of the older players in the game, and for a while I was having health issues that were severely impacting my RP energy. I dropped all my other characters so I could focus on my main and I was active every month, with several new threads and more than enough to make AC in a timely fashion, and I rarely drop threads. Even so, I never tagged outside of my own clique, because keeping up with the CR I already had was exhausting. Now that I've pulled through my issues I'm having a great time tagging out again, but I'm sure there are people who believe I'm completely unapproachable now because I spent so long barely keeping my head above water.

So, despite having many new threads each month, never flaking if I could help it, and always meeting AC, did I not deserve a place in the game at all because I needed to restrict things to my long-term CR for a while in order to keep up? Was I being "lazy" because at my lowest, getting one or two tags a day out was like pulling teeth despite my best efforts?

Again, I'm not saying everyone getting mentioned here is totally innocent. We do have a lot of cliques and I agree that some of them need to be managing their priorities better. But 99% of the time looking around my own circle, when someone is slow and insular for months at a time, it's usually because life is kicking their ass in some way. Because Emp has such low AC it's an ideal place for slow players, and for players who are struggling but want to stick it out for things to improve rather than dropping. This law I'm seeing that you're suddenly a stuck-up snob if you don't bow down and cater to every single person who comes screaming onto your doorstep for CR is damaging, I think, and so is expecting people to tag out constantly when they're already trying to coordinate with a dozen people every month.

Sometimes it's not at all a matter of being "lazy". Sometimes it is. But it hurts a lot of people when that's the automatic assumption.
