idk, in my experience, mods don't start out as closed off and cliquey, but it's something that just eventually happens when they mod a game for so long. maybe your experience is different from mine, but that's fine! all i know is that i have seen these exact same mods be more open to other players about two years ago, so that's the conclusion i draw from.

NOW having said that, you have to agree that these mods didn't just app to be mods because they are a clique, a lot of them didn't even join the game at the same time. they decided to run the game when nobody else would, and i have to imagine it was done for the love of the game as well as its players, so to paint them now in such an awful light is pretty cruel if i'm being honest.

if they want to play in a different game, it's their god given right just as much as it is yours. if they want to limit how many people they play with, it's their choice, too, because the alternative will be just a lot of dropped or slow-moving threads. as that different anon said, the mods aren't this snobby cabal who look down on everyone who isn't good enough to play with them. they're people like you and me who will read these comments and be inevitably hurt because the best they can do is simply not good enough. i'm not saying you should be grateful for their work, that's your choice, but constantly smearing them for things like these is a waste of your energy, too. nothing will change and it only ruins someone's day, whether it's yours or someone's who enjoys this hobby as much as you do.

i'm also really concerned that this insensitive dehumanization of mods will discourage others from ever stepping up, because there's really no reward in it. you can start as one of the best mods, but the day you lose steam and want to pass the torch rather than just ghost a game (see haven or spellbind), you're scum of the earth. we need to be better than this.

there's a pretty big difference between not tagging everyone and not tagging anyone but your buttbuddies. if you only want to interact with four or five people in the entire game you need to hie thee to a musebox instead.

i don't think it's unreasonable to apply similar standard to fictionalized character relationships, which would logically be even further inhibited by the fact this is a hobby and not real life, not something most people prioritize to the same degree or devote the majority of their waking hours/time/attention to.

someone can easily make activity check and contribute meaningfully* to a game even when they only interact with a small handful of players, especially a light plot or sol game.

*ymmv on this of course; in capped games or more plot-heavy games it should be expected to have more openness with interacting with more people as warranted.
