the entire episode is on a satire of it's own existence. i'd say it had the opposite problem where it was too condensed instead of "stretched out", trying to get from point a to point b with a very large (comparatively) grande adventure instead of the more down to earth daily trials and tribulations rock did per episode back in the day. hence the rapid-fire array of jokes and constant self-referentials.

the coming out story was a bit dull. i'm glad they did it as media desperately needs more of that out in the open but also there were so many other points of contention going on at the same time between reviving the fatheads and ed losing his job and conglom-o going bankrupt. the coming out story was unfortunately the weakest driver in that.

overall i enjoyed it! but i also see this is exactly what happens when you revive a cartoon after 20 years and have 30-45 minutes to make make up all the time inbetween. at least it's pretty self-aware about it.
