Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. I think the issue is that those three genres you've named get kind of exhausting after a while. you can get burned out really easily on tons of heavy/sad/scared tags, or even lots of intense smut/kink, and end up just wanting a thread of.. idk, cooking or chatting or shopping for groceries or something. that's why SOL creeps in, nothing to do with the lack of tone, imo.

and the downtime makes the action/horror even better when it turns up again, imo. what's the point in something disrupting the normal world if it has no normal to disrupt?

plus, the longer a character is in a game, the more it makes sense that they'd get used to the setting, they'd get burnt out, and they'd just get used to how things are. they might not enjoy it, but if they get ambushed by the grim stalking shadowcreatures for the 87th time they're probably not going to be screaming in horror and terror anymore.
