Hey anons, I had some questions about shipping.

If two characters are together but not strictly PSL but also not in a game how do you consider it? Like are memes on bakerstreet separate from the characters? Is that stuff not considered part of the same world?

I'm kinda new to RP so I'm trying to figure it all out. I see characters on dating memes for example that have another muse linked in their profile like they're together? I'm so confused.

rule of thumb: go by what they're asking for on this specific meme, don't worry about their other cr. if you're not in a game their other stuff doesn't affect your possibilities with them, they're separate universes unless you agree to have them intersect.

Memes are one-offs by default. If you hit it off with another player and have a few meme threads together, you can (but don't have to) keep continuity between them. Your threads with player A generally have no bearing on your threads wit player B though.

like others have said, continuity on memes is fuzzy at best. some folks keep a consistent continuity between their threads with certain characters, others don't, others only keep them consistent SOME of the time. it's all weird and subjective.

each character/player is different. if someone is top leveling on bakerstreet, unless it says 'locked to' (which they rarely do anymore but they still crop up from time to time), it's open to whatever preference they posted (m/m, m/f, ota, *).

the only thing to take from their profile is a) canon (if you're not sure), b) canon point (if available). some people have info posts/permissions posts on their journal and oftentimes they'll say whether they're comfortable with m/f or specific ship pairings or no villains or w/e. just because someone has someone else subscribed or linked on their profile doesn't mean anything beyond 'also plays with'. or hell, it could be another of their characters. (i sometimes have both sides of my fave ships so i can double the chance of playing it).

the rule of thumb on bakerstreet is 'everything is brand new unless you keep tagging'. eg; i throw up becky on a top level for sexting and get tagged by john. we have a fun thread and john winds up tagging me again on a baking meme. most times, we carry on from the cr we built up/established from the sexting meme. unless it's an au meme, like vampires or werewolves, and then that might separate so that becky and john now have two 'verses' that they play on any given meme. (often this is the time some people make a musebox to play in so they don't have to wait for specific memes and they can play privately and even make up new verses).

I keep everything in the same universe but as you can see from the other replies, most people don't do that. I only rp in memes so if I want to have any continuity, then I must make it happen myself.

If you see my character A in a relationship with X and Z, those things just take place in a different year of their life even if I play them at the same time. I don't expect X and Z to know each other or try to merge their universes together. I just keep it all together in my head.
