My RP partner recently picked up a character from a canon I'm unfamiliar with. That's cool, we do it all the time, and sometimes that convinces one of us to try a new piece of media.

But. This character has THE MOST UNBEARABLE VERBAL TIC.

I have no idea if he has it in canon, or she's putting it on. Think...really bad baby talk. From a sixteen-year-old animu boy. (Hence why I don't know how accurate it is. Verbal tics can be hard to translate from one language to another.)

She's in love with this monstrosity and talks about it nonstop, and I don't want to ruin her enjoyment of him in any way. But if I have to thread with this creature one more time, I'm going to rip the hair out of my head.

WWYD? I'm torn between asking her to just please type normally (potentially dampening her enjoyment? ugh) or trying to help her find someone else to bounce off of.

if it really is 'bad baby talk' and not just a naruto 'believe it!' kind of deal, i'd tell her to knock it off bc nobody wants to put up with that shit. yes, it may be ic, but in rp people should try to balance strict ic-ness with other people's enjoyment.

if it's the latter, ask her to tone it down. a verbal tick doesn't have to be every paragraph/sentence to have impact.

I'm kinda new to this side of RP but bakerstreet seems kinda dead aside from the text memes. Is that the only place to play outside of a home or PSL?

yes, but it's not dead. it looks dead because people hate tagging blank toplevels. put something in your toplevels (even just ideas for thread directions, preferences, etc.), you will get threads. source: i get threads and psls off bakerstreet all the time.

Got a few threads going on a tdm but I know I won't be apping to the game. Keep those threads going so they're "sample length" for the other characters or just drop them? The game allows tdm threads as canon so am I just wasting the other player's time since I know I won't be bringing in the character? They're enjoyable threads, the game just isn't a fit for other reasons.

just let the other player know you aren't going to app after all and ask if they want to continue. if they need the sample or you're just both enjoying the thread regardless of whether it will "count" then there's no reason not to continue. and if the other player would rather cut their losses and focus on threads will people apping or something then they can just tell you.

so, anons, a poll of sorts. most of us agree dwrp has a lot of issues with being unwelcoming, overly judgmental, alarm fatigue, too harsh on mods, and just has a lot of problems in general that are causing it to lose players and become insular in a real bad way.

if you could wave a magic wand and clean the hobby up, what would you do? what would you add or take away to make dwrp more hospitable and fun for all? (i'm thinking both in terms of concrete things like rules and in terms of attitudes overall)

it's been attempted a few times and failed every time, either because the moderation was too strict or the mods took on all the responsibility of posting and ghosted on the community after a week or two. you'd need to do a lot of advertising, on and off of bs, assuming bs still allows ads for off-comm memes.

if you try it, be patient. i think it might take something sticking around for more than a month to get more people willing to make the jump or come back to memes if they've stopped playing in them entirely.

how do you deal with a psl partner who constantly misses things in tags?

i like playing with them because their characterization is great and they always have a hook, but maybe once every 10-ish responses they'll give a tag back that totally skims over or entirely misses something in mine. they'll have their character do something (e.g open a door) that mine did two tags ago. my character will mention something about their past to their SO during a deep conversation as what i feel like is an obvious hook into further conversation and they'll veer off into something else instead. i'd call that second one an IC choice if they even mentioned it in their narrative, but they never do. i've had to bring it up several times that their tag doesn't make sense based on mine and they always laugh it off with "oh i guess i missed that!" and edit but it's so consistent now that i feel like they're skimming my tags pretty much all the time.

decide how butthurt you are that they very likely are either skimming your tags or missing the prompts/hooks that you want them to pick up on. either they're doing it intentionally, or they aren't thinking the way you do and aren't picking up on what you think is obvious. if you're too butthurt to keep playing with them, then stop. because you've brought it up and they haven't changed, meaning they aren't going to/aren't capable of it. how much does it matter to you?

i've never been rejected from a game but most often people are rejected because:

1) their writing is bad
2) they didn't follow the app rules
3) they are a huge wanker and the mods were warned

assuming 2 and 3 don't apply to you, if you're a decent writer you should be fine. people rarely get rejected for quality reasons these days

To this day I still use an Intuos 4, though by now it must be ancient. It works well enough, though I notice the curved lines appear too straight when I draw them vertically. If it is not in production anymore, maybe it should come cheaper, or in better versions.

I’m going to start being more proactive about freezing derailing commentary here, like the “I don’t like chips rly” posts above, and “your fave is gross ew” comments in positive game Favorites threads. I’m also going to delete deetless speculation about anon mod identities (no caps or pastebins within the first few posts, no dice), and wank-fishing about new games.

That doesn’t mean you can’t be an angry, raging cuss about a game you’re in, or not complain about players & stuff you hate– make a new thread for it.
