What's the least amount of canon for a canon character you're comfortable apping a character with or seeing played in a game.

For me, Overwatch is my bottom tier. I remember seeing those characters popping up in games basically as soon as it released, when some of them were just a few paragraphs (if that) of backstory and voice lines. I figure that, if I ever feel doubtful, I just need to remember all of the OW characters who were (and still are) just a few lines of history and some voice lines.

If there's something more substantial than that, I'm probably good.

probably in the same boat as you, overwatch and the team fortress 2 of yesteryear. anything less and you should probably stick to memes or go to f-list. i'm personally not comfortable playing malleable protags in games, nor characters who have no canon dialogue or very little, though in the past i used to app characters that definitely were 90% headcanon with little concern. i cringe thinking back.

I hate this and I hate myself for this but I need to let it out somewhere

there's a metaplot going on in my game and the sign-ups were while I was at work, and before I even saw the freaking post the part I would've wanted to participate in was completely filled up and I don't know why but this is wrecking me emotionally. I feel like I've been completely shunned silently by everyone I've been playing with between drops and this stuff and just lack of contact and not knowing how to approach anyone without sounding like a PA butthole or demanding attention or anything else

I don't know what to do. I'm a mess, I'm crying because I don't want to ruin anyone else's fun but I want to have fun too but now that's not possible without booting someone out and I hate it and I hate myself for it

I miss when this hobby was fun and I was more involved. It feels more and more like I'm getting shoved out, whether that's actually happening or not, and I don't know what to do or who to talk to about it

How do you manage to play against characters you flat out dislike? Not due to the person playing them, but because you don't like their canon or where the writer took the character or they just flat out annoy you. Do you set it aside and play against them anyway, or do you opt out?

depends on the character/source, tbh. i'm not keen to play with rapist characters, so i wouldn't want to play with a kilgrave, but most kilgrave players are self-aware and have an opt out post, which i'd use. i play characters from canons that have questionable content and i've put opt out posts in my journals because i know not everyone's comfortable with playing from a canon like orphan black. i'm not too sure i'd want to play against someone from american horror story (just from what i've heard of it through talk) and might opt out if i had to.

but if it's just 'eh, i don't like what canon point they're playing from', i'd get over it.

i just realized i screwed up a basic but very important lore detail about my character in a tag, and i can't fix it because my rp partner already tagged me back. it's not the end of the world (if it was a problem my rp partner wouldn't have tagged me) but i'm still annoyed at myself. what's burning your biscuits, anons?

i've seen this wanked about eternally but in passing as i'm a transplant who's been largely games/psls-only and i'm just now taking a look at bakerstreet, and i'm genuinely curious: why are blank top levels a thing at all? it's just pages and pages of empty toplevels and maybe one or two actual responses which seems a little bit silly, for a number of reasons. does anyone really actually like the blank top level thing apart from the fact that it's easier than having to write a starter?

i try to at least put some info in my toplevel, but i don't like to put starters there because i like being surprised by other people's ideas. fully blank toplevels are basically a product of the fact that most people want the hard part done for them.
