Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

i feel like i'm in the minority because even if i've seen/read/played the entire canon, if i don't feel like it shows enough of what makes a character tick and how they'll respond in a variety of situations, i won't play them no matter how much i love the source material.

Pretty much this. There's some canons where even if a character is there for the whole movie, they're just too loosely defined or the canon circumstances are such that you can't really call them appable.

My go-to example for this is Inception. Perfectly fine movie, serviceable characters, I honestly think that those characters don't have enough personality to be appable (and they just got apped everywhere in 2010 because 2010 rp was a LOT different than 2019 rp wrt canon standards).

Same. You can have a character from a 50-volume manga who never gets enough exposition/background info/motivations to be appable, and you can have a character from an hour-long movie that gives more than enough to make them playable.

Same, with a caveat that I'll play characters like that in PSLs with friends, I just won't app them to a game or bring them out for a lot of memes.
