how plot-heavy would you say this game is and how much does it lapse into sol? how much is there for characters to do and how reactive is the setting/how much mod-initiated structure is there through events and etc?

i'm sure someone else will chime in, but i'd say that it's reasonably plot-heavy in that the mods definitely have a plan and clear ideas for the game and the setting — but that the plot seems to be of a relative slow burn so that the mods themselves don't get burnt out. there's plenty of exploration for characters to do around the setting itself (minor and major), and a lot of engagement to be had with the setting in terms of discovering new things — places, forest spirits, and what have you.

the mods themselves are very hands on and engaged with the players and the setting both through NPCs and player-led explorations, along with events (there's one coming up later this month which looks as if it'll be pretty impactful on the game/progression of the game plot, and there are avenues for all types of characters to get involved with it).

i haven't noticed much in the way of 'lapsing into SOL', but there is obviously downtime for characters to take a break from the plot and my personal feeling is that — at the moment, at least — how much SOL there is/how much there is for character to do is dependent on your character and how they'd engage with the setting and player willingness to opt in to the events, exploration, and ongoing plot.

(obvs YMMV with some of this. it's also still pretty early days with the game in general.)

It says on the reserves page they open at 12:01 AM but I see a bunch of reserves from last month dated 12:00 AM. Do they actually open at midnight? I'm only asking because I don't know how many slots are going to open up for the month and I don't want to potentially miss the cut because I waited a minute.

There seemed to be one dominant group in chat that all knew each other from a previous game which in and of itself wasn't a bad thing. But these players had routinely made comments in the general channel about not being interested or invested in playing with some player characters because they would prefer characters of a different type. One of the players started policing replies that people made to each other's posts with the argument that only mods should be replying and made a big deal out of it, mods replied to it with the equivalent of please chill. IIRC there were some racist comments made that presumably got reported to the mods? So that's probably the juciest. The clique all left the chat shortly after and now they're heading up the drops.

Its kind of funny, a month ago I was annoyed that so many of my old rp partners dogpiled into this game and ignored the threads we had together. I was going to have time next month to join a new game and I was excited to play with them again, but most of those old rp partners just flounced.

I might still join anyway, but damn. Feels bad, man.
