Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

do:
- pose a question to the audience, give people something to respond to
- think about "realism". would (and can) your character actually film themselves doing this? would they actually write out their weird accent? would they use emojis or whatever?
- browse the recent network posts. are you just going to be repeating what someone else has already asked? find something new to talk about. pick something about the setting to discuss. "has anyone seen that weird store with the year-round Christmas decorations", stuff like that.

don't:
- use it like a diary. nobody cares and it's awkward to comment on. keep that stuff in your inbox.
- do stuff like "here's a long shot of my character staring into the camera while injured/bloodied"/fishing for "u ok hun" posts. sure, they work occasionally, but mostly they're boring and cringy.
- use it just to talk to your cr. inboxes are made for that shit.
- comment on other people's posts just to be an asshole. sure it's IC for your character to cuss people out for smoking on camera but do you really have to do it every time? etc

re: your last point

is there something wrong with negative cr? do all responses to posts have to be friendly?

da, but most characters would not, ICly, waste time arguing with a beligerent person on a network post. it's a thread that, by its nature, will go nowhere, if not be ignored entirely. it's one thing to have a confrontation in person, or in a situation neither party can really walk away from, but on a network post it's just pointless and not that fun for either party to thread out without really twisting characters to keep responding.

idk i think for characters who ARE that petty it could be a good springboard for in-person negative cr when characters meet. sometimes i like a good petty squabble.

maybe, but it's not likely to generate an engaging thread on the post you made the comment to, which is the point

is it not? what if the characters could start talking about the differences between their worlds because the character smoking is from 300 years ago, or they're from mad men, or the character sniping at them hates smoke because everybody and their mother smoked Dystopian Drug in the robot wars

i don't currently play a character who would really care about smoking so i'm just crowdsourcing opinions on this really. i have heard of players getting tired of morality police characters dogpiling theirs for pg-13 substance use which does sound like it'd get old though

there are ways to do any IC confrontation on a network post that might generate a good thread, sure, but most of the time it doesn't seem to work out that way. these kind of things just tend to work better with in-person interactions.

that's fair! thanks for the pointers, anons

it's more about people who turn their characters into a nag about it. negative cr is fine but getting "should you be setting that example to the kids" etc etc every time can be really annoying.

also as the other anon has already said it's not particularly easy or fun to reply to. personally speaking most of my characters would just reply with "so what" or straight up ignore the comment.

if it was in a log or something it might be fun to play off of, but on the network it's just kind of.. eh.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-06 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I think the problem with replies like that is often they end up like the "I don't like chips rly" meme but for IC networks. Maybe something interesting could come from it if both characters are shitposters or there's a deeper reason behind their antagonism, but normally it ends up pointless and not in a fun way.

man i remember when people were shitting all over cnc players for doing question posts. guess we were all ahead of the time.

might want to make suggestions other than questions though. if i want to play 21 questions i'll go on the meme for that or post it to my games' meme comms.
