a little about me: i'm terribly picky when it comes to castmates, and because my standard is unreasonably high i've learned to manage my expectations both when it comes to ic characterization/writing quality and castmember personalities - especially because right now i play from a mega popular canon that sometimes attracts not-so-great writers, in a mega popular game.

except right now....... my cast is so amazing, guys. please believe me when i gush that they are fucking legitimately GOD TIER. not only is the cast filled with incredible writers who know their characters inside and out and blow me away with the nuances of every tag, but they're also super chill and great to hang and plot with OOCly.

just... i am so, so grateful and happy, having been in not-so-great situations rp-wise before. i wish i could link you guys to each and every one of them so they could get the attention they deserve but i know better than to namedrop on rpanons haha

i tagged a complete stranger on a meme with my oc expecting to be ignored. not only did they tag back, after a bunch of tags they sent me a pm saying how much they were enjoying tagging my character and asking if i would be up for more threads/a psl. now we're plotting three different psls and tagging on two memes and i couldn't be happier. i also get to wake up to great tags and discord messages like "i heard this song on the radio and it made me think of our characters."

i... think i finally have a shipping partner? and for my oc, no less? i'm still in shock but i love it.

anon above me made me want to give a shout-out to a newish rp partner of mine. They always give me great tags, and they're super sweet and fun to talk to ooc. They saw my canon character on a meme and took a chance sending me a message about starting a psl with one of their ocs, and I'm loving everything we're doing together.

and another shout-out to the first canonmate that tagged me when I was just starting out with my character and feeling very unsure. We played a meme thread to completion, and decided to continue it into a psl that's been lovely.

thank you both for taking a chance on me, and sticking with me through my sometimes erratic schedule.

my castmates are the apples of my eye!! after a debacle that happened with my previous cast, i thought i'd just lcw for the rest of my rp life, but i took a chance and ended up playing with a couple of the sweetest people i've ever met who are so damn good with their characters! they're amazing and make me so glad i hadn't given up on rp liked i'd planned!!!

telltale voice: i will now die for them.

there's enough of us around that it won't out me, but i'm deep in good omens hell (heaven?) with someone i haven't tagged with in a while. they're as great a writer as i remember and our takes on the characters complement each other so well. we've been tagging like crazy and i'm having a blast. it's been so fun just jumping on the bandwagon and unabashedly burying myself in this ship.

Nervously waiting for responses on some threads so I figured I'd combat unreasonably negative thoughts ("wah nobody has responded yet because I suck and they've all dropped wah") with some positive memories.

I've had the fortune of experiencing this twice, actually.

The first time was on LJ. I had a Disney muse and I'd taken a chance on tagging another Disney character (from a different canon) on a shipping meme. Put a lot of thought into the setup (which I'd split into 2 tags - does anyone still do that?) and was really excited about it, but at the same time, y'know, unsure of whether or not I would get a response because I hadn't thought to check if the mun was cool with some rando suddenly dropping a ton of AU setup on them.

To my surprise, I got a response within the same day, and eventually that tiny little plot bunny I was excited about expanded into this... amazingly dense thing with elements of cloak and dagger and an undercurrent of bittersweet romance. Best yet, we actually managed to give it a satisfying end.

(We tried to continue the cr on a different meme, but I think we'd both mutually burned out by then so it never moved past a couple of tags. I will probably never forget them though; the experience was truly one-of-a-kind, especially because I find it difficult to do crosscanon rp, even with characters from a similar-ish universe.)

So, second time? Fastforward a couple of years and I find the other half of a rarepair I love on a smut meme on DW. I tag them of course, but I keep it one-liner short because I don't want to scare them off. They tag me back with something lengthier, I respond in kind, and it just... snowballs in all of the most amazing ways? It was a smut thread so ofc there was an attempt to go in that direction which goes gloriously sideways because my character is essentially a brat. Said character runs off, and we three-week-timeskipped our way to a reunion where they (with significanlly cooler heads) shoot the shit while dancing around their feelings at a local bar.

I don't think I've ever felt more comfortable riffing off an RP partner than at that thread. Normally I'm pretty terrfied about introducing material that has little to no basis in in-canon worldbuilding, but for them I wrote out long diatrabes about what shenanigans my character got up to during said three-week-timeskip. I introduced a random OC for our characters to shit on, and this RP partner took it all in stride and then some, introducing a couple of OCs of their own. At one point, feeling crazy inspired, I even introduced a subplot that led to my character serenading the other one. It was totally cheesy in all the right ways.

Just thinking about how it all went down makes me smile to this day. The only thing I regret about it is that we weren't able to give that monster of a thread a satisfying end. Ironically, it was probably the smut that slowed things down to a halt. Ah well. For the rest of it, no regrets.

This is beautiful, anon, and I'm glad you shared. I've had a good amount of similar flashes in the pan, so to speak, and it's the reward that keeps me coming back.
