REDSHIFT is a pan-fandom CRAU-focused survival game with elements of horror, set on an unnamed planet that exists in the dead space between universes. Player-driven and exploration focused, the colony of Anchor's facilities and story can be unlocked piece by piece through character actions. Given the focus on CRAU, it's possible to find multiple versions of a single character in-game. Creatures, places, and things from other universes may also make appearances, temporary or permanent, by plot or player suggestion. Trans 9 reboot

so recently i've been thinking a lot about Trans 9.

for anyone not in the know, T9 was a plot-heavy space opera game on LJ/DW that started about ten years ago and closed around 2012 after being plagued by wank for nearly its whole run. the premise was that the characters had been taken from their home worlds by a sentient spaceship named Stacy, which had been created by an alien race, the Daligig, to fight off another race called the Ohm, which were bent on destroying the fabric of reality. the characters had been chosen for this (basically) due to being fictional characters; they had been marked by the universe as special and capable of bending reality to their wills.

in order to figure out how to defeat the Ohm, the crew visited a number of alien planets on missions to collect intel or physical resources. missions ranged from diplomatic meetings, to subterfuge, to everyone getting fake-married. characters also faced conflicts aboard the ship, such as fighting off monsters that broke loose from holding areas on the ship, or freeing the ship from space pirates that had hijacked it. various areas of the ship were unlocked as the characters explored and completed certain objectives.

OOCly, the players were given a lot of leeway as to how they could contribute to the game setting: they could include buildings or other setting elements from their canons in the ship's city, run miniplots for groups of players, include vehicles in the hangar for other characters to use, and so on. the characters were encouraged to take active roles in keeping the ship running, and to that end there were various IC departments such as engineering, medical, security and so on. there was also the IC government, but the less said about that the better

all of the above was stuff about the game that i really liked, and nothing has quite scratched that plot-heavy planet-hopping itch for me since, so i'm tentatively thinking about trying to reboot it.

i'm thinking of a reboot rather than creating a new game because some of what i liked about T9 was very particular to that setting (living ship, characters chosen because of their inherent specialness, etc.) and the idea of doing the same basic things with the numbers filed off seems kind of hokey. i was considering an AU of sorts with some of the same elements, like Stacy, but a different conflict, so it's not just a rehash of what the original mods did. i'd want to get the old mods' permission, if possible, but i don't honestly know if any of them are still in DWRP, and other than PMing the game journals, i'm not sure how to reach them.

i guess i'm just wondering what everyone's thoughts would be regarding something like this. would a game like T9 be viable in modern DWRP culture? are players nowadays less prone to really throwing themselves into a game setting like the players did in the original game? i'd hate to put a lot of work into a setting like this only to be met with players that just want everything spoon-fed to them.

Has anybody else run into players who break the fourth wall and write in their character reacting to content in tags that was not represented on an ic level? Like exposition or the text. The first time this happened to me the player's character reacted to a typo I made. I found it really disruptive. Am I alone thinking some type of ooc contact would be more appropriate if a tag has spelling errors or misused words or something?

So, I've lost interest in my current game... I'm going to be apping to another game, and I have friends in it, and the premise is more my style, so I'm pretty excited. However, prior to this decision, I got involved in some plots hoping to rejuvenate my interest. Which was a bad idea, I know... because it didn't work, and now I feel like I have a couple people hanging on my participation when my drive for this game is well and truly dead.

How do I tactfully throw my hands up and say "sorry, I quit"? Should I contact each player individually before formally bowing out, so we can handwave stuff? If so, how do I even really breach that? I don't wanna just drop and wordlessly back out, especially because I want to be on good terms with the players. The DW community isn't that large, and I don't wanna rub anyone the wrong way.
