This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. maybe i'm misunderstanding, but having a radio or writing things down makes the language barrier a non-issue, doesn't it? that doesn't seem too bad to me. the faq also literally says people can handwave the language barrier if they don't feel like dealing with it.

in that case, doesn't it just seem a little useless to have at all? what if you have one member of a cast who keeps with the language barrier while the rest doesn't? they'd have to come up with an ic explanation for why only bob can't just talk to people in person, or why john is always complaining that no one speaks the same language as him.

that and considering how often people complain about games being too network focused, anything that discourages in-person threads just seems pointless to me. a language barrier in the other direction, where characters can understand speech but not text, would be more feasible.

i took it to mean we could handwave getting around the barrier but not ignore it completely, if that makes sense? but i agree letting some people get around it would defeat the purpose.

as for in-person threads, it sounds like the radios and mirrors will take care of that? i'm actually thinking of tdming a straightlaced military char and the idea of him using his callsign to talk to someone right next to him really tickles me.

cdc had a language barrier to start with and that was really fun to play with. one of the only fun things to play with in cdc.
