Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i want to be interested but something about it has a very strong riverview vibe (and i dont mean the coding)

not sure im ready for another disappointment like that

fuck. do you mean just the general tone of the game as being just standard sol? or is there a suspicion coffee and her butt brigade of friends are behind the scenes? because if it's the latter, i ain't going near this place with a twenty-foot pole and that's a shame since it looks interesting.

Re: REDSHIFT

a bit of both. i don't have an in with coffee or anything so i could be entirely off base about that part. take it with a grain of salt. there's a similar vibe i can't put my finger on.

the game feels like it has a same general tone and energy, though. yeah. i get a feeling it'll wind up exactly like riverview that way. i like sol a lot and have fun playing whatever sol looks like in specific settings.

i'm just not in for a game where a mod gets butthurt that people are doing more sol than exploration. that always rubbed me the wrong way about riverview. there were huge monthly holiday intro mingles with a ton of prewritten sol or smut focused prompts, and the original missions/exploration setup was very vague and relied on player initiative to get done. (before the addition of exploration logs, which was a good idea applied too late.)

this is dwrp. people don't want to think things, let alone herd cats playing out a relatively vague mission to completion. of course players would all angle more towards the fun and easy sol elements.

"this is dwrp. people don't want to think things... of course players would all angle more towards the fun and easy sol elements."

im confused about this sentiment I see a lot about people not wanting to think and erring towards "fun" and SoL games. if that were the case wouldn't museboxes reign supreme here? imho the avg DW rp game isn't SoL and seems pretty effing pre-reading/rules heavy

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
museboxes require too much creativity to come up with ideas on the fly for most dwrpers.

that's why you get people who join games that aren't sol focused but then only focus on sol things. they want the fun setting without the work involved in making it.

i want this so bad. i'd make a holly heights-esque game with mechanics like genessia's. that's so much work to do tho

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
what are the mechanics you like about both these? (sorry in ever played in either)

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
holly heights: slice of life, characters are arranged into families (easy cr). i'm more into character relationships than big action plots

genessia: no apps, no ac (there's a check in every few months, i think?)

that makes sense. so what about a musebox with constant prompts? (which is basically a meme comm i realize as I'm writing this. so maybe i should be wondering what a different take on a typical meme would be.)

you're right about people joining genre games with plots and then doing SoL stuff there, but I'm so put off by the idea of having to keep up with AC on some premise i don't care about just to get some good CR out of people. so i guess i wonder, do people need the setting or just the prompts?

i know nothing about coffee or her butt brigade, what have they done? i think the game looks interesting but i don't want to app into a total shitshow

All the relevant details are gathered up here: https://wankgate.dreamwidth.org/55168.html?thread=213177984#cmt213177984

But the long and the short of it is that Coffee is extremely two-faced and plays extreme favorites. She would ban people for the flimsiest of reasons, mainly that she didn't like them, but if you had an in with her, you could squat for literally a year while she made excuse after excuse for you or miss AC every single time and she'd never kick you out. She also attempted to bully people out of her game for petty reasons i.e. someone refusing to ship with her the way she wanted.

If Coffee is running this, everyone better be prepared for another dictatorship.

thanks for the deets, anon. i'll probably still reserve because i like the premise and the crau focus and i have friends looking at it, but if shit starts to go south i'm outtie

Re: REDSHIFT

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
coffee and their group of friends are all in the reserves so i'm wondering if this was the sol space game she said she wanted to come back with after they closed riverview.

All those untagged top levels are pretty discouraging ngl

looked awesome, was really excited to try apping a character I've played before and wanted to give another go, but then saw the "samples must be no more than a year old" thing.

is there, like, an actual half-decent reason for this? it seems like the weirdest and most random restriction to put on people and i've never seen another game do it.

Re: REDSHIFT

(Anonymous) 2019-05-26 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
i've seen quite a few places do variations on 'samples must be from within the last [ arbitrary timeframe ]' and i've never been able to work out why. it's always fucked me off when it's been games that only allow linked threads for samples.

Re: REDSHIFT

(Anonymous) 2019-05-26 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, it seriously makes no sense to me at all. generally, writing quality only improves as people keep doing it, so if someone thinks a sample from 2016 is good enough and represents them well enough to use, you're not likely to end up with a shittier writer in your game than you thought you were getting.

if you think it's because they might be too rusty on the character or canon or whatever, i mean...that's what the app is for.

Re: REDSHIFT

(Anonymous) 2019-05-26 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
except that an awful lot of us recycle app info because we can't be arsed to rewrite the personality section for the nth time every time we app.

isn't this game focused on crau? I feel like it's more a quality check for someone whose last game experience was over 5 years ago and they haven't played the character since. a fresh sample would only help them get back into the mindset.

You can link it AND write something new. It was asked in the faq

Re: REDSHIFT

(Anonymous) 2019-05-27 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
it doesn't really make sense for a game that allows aus from over a year ago....

Re: REDSHIFT

I went in expecting a flood of mcu reserves but there's only like 3. At this rate im actually more concerned about the game being over run by star wars
