there's a phrase in chinese that describes that feeling you have when you want to eat something, in a way that doesn't have anything to do with hunger. semi-literally translated, it's like "mouth wants to taste", and probably the closest equivalent in english is "feeling snacky"

Here's something that's been on my mind lately: What makes it okay for professional writers to write about (and capitalize) on things like terrorism, child abuse, rape, etc. etc. when it's so unacceptable in a community-based hobby like RP (and even fanfic)?

I'm not saying there's a double standard, because that all grosses me out too and I'd rather not see it around here, but I want to know what the psychology behind it is. Why is it okay (for a given value of "okay") in one arena, but not another?

Because if someone writes a book about terrorists raping children, you don't have to buy it. You don't have to read it. You won't find passages of the book plastered on the walls of bookstores for anyone to accidentally come across. You probably don't even have to talk to anyone who will read it.

But when someone rps these things, it's a lot closer to you. It'd be like your sister bought that book and left it open on a table in the middle of a graphic scene. The community is smaller, so the possibility of being connected to the people who wrote those things is higher.

That all being said, I've seen people rp terrorists, play characters who were victims of child abuse, and rape happens a lot in sex games. Likewise, I know no one who would enjoy reading a book about those subjects for pleasure. So it's not as much of a double standard as you think.

I kind of want to play Frankenstein from Penny Dreadful, but I wasn't raised in an English speaking country and don't know any classic English language poetry/literature. It's a pretty major part of his character that he can quote from these things off the top of his head, and I don't know anything about it. Is there any sort of useful guide I can read maybe? Something that can give me a rough understanding of Romantic poetry?

If you could make your dream game, what sort of setting would it be? What kind of settings do you feel are sorely needed in dwrp?

exploration or action and heavily based on final fantasy tactics advance/a2 but with heavy influence from indiana jones, tomb raider, uncharted, and so on without simply just marrying it to one canon. no test drive (ever), only like 15 reserves an app cycle and cap of 200 characters. 1:1 day but a slower speed, not snailpace. open world with treasure and quests. semi-modern tech. no npcs (or minor npcs, none played to an extent that they super get involved with the game or have their own accounts). character ages have to be 18+ and no aging up allowed. characters that would actively fight against the setting or do nothing are discouraged not to app. limit of 2 characters per player. player quest ideas/plot suggestions encouraged, but the suggestion post is anon only.

ac would maybe be on a point system, but would have rules in place to discourage dropping of threads (ie, under so many comments and you'd get half the points than if it were over) and players are to keep their own thread tracking and link it for ac. mod plurk disables replies and all important announcements are also on the ooc. anyone who consistently is late or last day posting for ac will have to make more the next month (or ideally an ac every other month) and if a mod finds out someone consistently is reminded by friends they'll get an ac strike. if you get too many strikes for being a little off or too little or dropping threads preemptively then you get booted. also penalties if you almost only interact with your cast or a specific clique. rewards for tagging out and new people, but not if the thread doesn't come to fruition and you're just tagging for points.

or a waterworld game.
