i went to a gyno recently and when i told her i was a virgin she didn't believe me. i repeated myself and she started cracking up and told me "brb" so she could laugh about it with one of her coworkers.

i'm a 17yo socially awkward lesbian in the south. i'm so embarrassed i don't want to tell my parents (i wouldn't mention the lesbian part to them though)

I got accused of drug seeking for severe migraines. Got told to take tylenol and sent home in pain that lasted 2 weeks until I eventually had to have an emergency tooth extraction.

If the problem was something that would require a tooth extraction, migraine meds wouldn't help with it, and unfortunately 'I need high-test painkillers for a bad headache' really is classic drug-seeking behavior, so you're not going to get a prescription without having a history with that doctor.

i'm really sorry you had to deal with that, anon! she's the one who should be embarrassed, not you; there's nothing wrong with being a virgin, but there is something wrong with an adult being so immature, unprofessional, and mean.

i think you should tell your parents so that they'll know not to take you to her anymore, you don't have to go into specifics, just say that she laughed at you and made you feel uncomfortable.

also yes, definitely tell your parents. I'm not sure why you think your parents would find you being a virgin funny - they're your parents. Odds are they *don't* want you having random sex.

WOW, what an asshole. there's nothing wrong with being a virgin at any age, and you're still really young for it tbh. i went to a gyno at the age of 21, told her i was a virgin (i'm still one now, at 25), and she just nodded and continued on with the exam. please tell your parents not to bring you back to that shitty doctor

I don't know if this is a shitty doctor problem or if it's a girl's/women's health issue, but until I turned eighteen, my doctor wouldn't treat my heavy periods. I spent about five days a week each month for six years vomiting, weak and unable to focus in school during that time. I was only given treatment because the blood tests finally came back showing I had an imbalance. I just wish there was something she could have done during those six years I was best friends with a bucket. I mean there were nights when I wet the bed with blood. How is it okay to leave a 12-year-old in that condition?

that's a shitty doctor problem. a lot of doctors think that anyone under a certain age just 'doesn't know' and it exaggerating. 'oh, i'm in so much pain' '... sure you are.'

like, dude. i bled for 2 1/2 weeks straight my first period, had a week break, then had another one for 3 weeks. i had cramps so severe that i literally got dropped down in the middle of the sidewalk and couldn't do anything but curl into a ball.

but hey, guess it's all in my head, right?

i find it's worse with male doctors, but it can be really bad with women doctors that never went through anything horrible.

i went to the doctor at 19 with similar issues and was told to stop complaining, and that as soon as i had a baby my cramps would even out

i had an infamously fatphobic doctor to match my psychotically fatphobic mother when i was 7-8, and their combined insanity had me full-on bulimic by the time i was 9, and almost 20 years later, my relationship with food is still kind of weird and i am massively distrustful of GPs

My girlfriend suffers from extreme depression and anxiety, which are probably "symptoms" of PTSD or related to it somehow, that she gained from a long history of abuse.

We got her set up with a therapist. She meets with this therapist a few times, it goes well. That is, until she comes in, in one of her worst depressive moods as opposed to fairly calm, and expresses to the therapist that she feels like giving up on everything.

Her therapist says that if she feels like giving up, they may as well just terminate her case and stop therapy right then, instead of actually trying to help her deal with these feelings. The therapist proceeded to treat her like her feelings were nothing but unreasonable for the rest of the appointment, as opposed to unhealthy feelings with some reasonable and some unreasonable causes. My girlfriend had explained having these feelings to my therapist before, but the therapist had never seen it fully, and that was how she reacted.

Like, I get that mental health is complicated and mental illness is difficult to deal with. I also knew that bad therapists are out there. But we were just blown away.

Had a mental health professional discharge me and right me off as cured of depression because I had an allergic reaction to Prozac and asked to be taken off it.

And I mean vomiting every fifteen minutes like clockwork kind of reaction.

when I asked if my prozac might be the reason I'd never had much of a sex drive, my (middle-aged woman) nurse practitioner spent like five minutes talking about how I ought to explore it more (i.e. at least try masturbating) because female sexuality is a wonderful thing I shouldn't miss out on

i've never been to a hospital and only gotten checkups a few times in my life. but my brother had an accident and had to go to the er and stay in the hospital for like 5 months, way longer than he should have had to stay. the doctors just didnt give a fuck about him.

I don't think I've had a good experience but here's the worst.

Found a tumour during an ultrasound, was put on 6 month waiting list to see a specialist about it. Finally saw doctor and was told that since it was so long I had to go do another ultrasound and come back in another few months. In the end it was an 11 month process from complaining about abdominal pain to being told it's "probably nothing" without any further tests and now there's a bit of a bulge developing in that area.

I had the same thing happen at 15. She didn't believe me and used an oversized speculum (ie the one for sexually active adults)

She realized her fucking mistake when I started screaming at her to stop. She apologized if only to avid my parents pressing charges.

therapist called me a failure and garbage over the phone and asked why i was even bothering because i forgot an appointment time and called her to ask

my psychiatrist told me that the clothes i was wearing made me look like an ugly boy and that i was lying about taking my medication. she also didn't just say i needed to lose weight (which i was really proud of losing 15lbs the month prior healthily with lifestyle changes!) but that i was "really fat".

she was a huge part of my problems for a long time and part of why i hated myself and only saw myself negatively. i eventually changed to another one and i felt a lot better about myself.

when it comes to physical wellness, around the same time a doctor told me if i wanted to "stop being fat" that i should just eat a few crackers before bed and drink only water- after i told her i didn't eat at night and she didn't believe me. also when i was a teen the sex ed teacher had literally told the girls "don't whore around".

i guess what i've learned from this thread is that all sorts of doctors all over are assholes.
