your skeleton doesn't weigh 140lbs. there's no such thing as being "big boned," there is a normal human skeleton under all of that jiggle. your body shape doesn't mean you have to be overweight. you can be a pear and still an acceptable weight in bmi. none of the things you listed means you have to be overweight or obese. bmi has a pretty damn good range of "normal"

Sorry I had to go run errands, but the other anon gave you a really quick example.

Skeletal structures aren't rigid and uniform. They vary. Bones are thicker or thinner, stronger or brittle, some skeletons are even wider and built to hold more weight because of a genetic predisposition to being overweight or genetic coding that means no matter the exercise or healthy eating, you're probably going to be fat regardless because that's just the breaks.

Being big boned does actually exist, or else hat sizes, as a really good example, would not vary as widely as they do.

but there are literally no fat skeletons. your SKELETON does not make you fat. it does not push you in to an obese bmi category. it just does fucking not, no matter how much it differs from a 5'1" dainty little fairyskeleton.

you're only fat if you consume more than you burn. that's the absolute bottom line. you can lose weight eating nothing but processed cheese and koolaid. it's not a healthy way to do it, but as long as you're eating under your metabolic limit, you're going to lose weight. the key is finding out how many calories you specifically need in a day, because that DOES vary from person to person.

if you're gaining or maintaining weight you're getting too many tho.

Oh god you're one of those people who oversimplifies weight gain and loss as "IT'S ALL JUST CALORIES AND NUMBERS!"

No it's way more complicated than that but you're never going to see it because you have it in your head it's as simple as counting calories I am done with you good-bye.

it is, you dumb fucker. YOU CAN NOT CREATE FAT OUT OF NOTHING. you are not a scientific miracle. if you are creating or maintaining your weight, you are giving your body too much "fuel" and it's storing the extra.

If someone is telling you it's just about counting calories, and not about various complicated processes including genetics, then they're trying to sell you something. You can starve yourself and still not lose weight very fast or at all because your metabolism is fucking awful, which, surprise, isn't affected by your intake of calories!

so are you telling me that you can eat nothing and still gain weight? are you honestly trying to tell me that right now? there are different factors that go in to weight loss, sure, but the core, baseline rule is "burn more than you eat." that's why people lose weight while eating fucking mcdonalds. and weight loss doesn't have to be fast you know. if it happens, then that's great. just because you don't shed 15lbs in a week doesn't mean the process is broken. but you can't eat 3 pringles and gain weight. you can not gain weight if you're not consuming excess calories. you can not gain weight on a deficit. your body can not create fat out of nowhere. it fucking can't and if you think that's how it works you're honestly delusional and you need to get off tumblr.

omfg the bloated stomach on a starving person has absolutely nothing to do with fat. are you serious right now

big boned =/= fat. you can be big boned and still be within a healthy weight range for your size.

one of my friends is nearly 6' and built like a rugby player. she's broad and solid and clearly big boned but she also has a bmi of 22, which is a normal bmi and not at all overweight.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2015-05-21 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
And she's lucky. I know people who have really wide skeleton structures, and are only counted as ~overweight~ because the BMI only calculates height and weight. If their doctors didn't modify it based on skeletal structure, then they'd be deemed at the very least overweight.

Your friend's doctor? Likely modifies the damn BMI for her, which is what a lot do because of how inaccurate BMI actually is. Which is what is being argued.

>there's no such thing as being "big boned," there is a normal human skeleton under all of that jiggle.

that's why everyone who is the same height wears the same size hat, right? because skeletons are all uniform?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I got my skeleton from the the clearance section after Halloween.

i'll wait

Re: lol no

now you're just being purposefully dense

Re: lol no

(Anonymous) 2015-05-21 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
no, the argument was that you can be classified as overweight/obese by bmi due to your skeleton or body shape. and that's not how those two things work.

da

(Anonymous) 2015-05-21 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
the argument was that bmi is inaccurate because it doesn't factor in literally anything but height and weight

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2015-05-21 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
it isn't tho. if you pack on a lot of muscle it can be inaccurate, because muscle is more dense than fat, but it is commonly a good scale to use because most typical people aren't musclemachines. you can still have a body shape and not be fat. your skeleton is not going to make you overweight. there are no fat skeletons. height and weight are all you need for the majority of people.
