Humanity has expanded its borders. Forming a Confederation of Inhabited Systems with several other races discovered after First Contact, and facing the strain on their home planet, mankind took to the stars, placing colonies first in their own systems, then in friendly systems, and finally in roving colony fleets. The 43rd Scutum-Crux Fleet was designed to colonize any HZ-class planet, with a cityship, three gargantuan agricultural vessels, and a fleet of nearly a dozen warships to protect such easy targets from pirates, slavers, and enemies of the Confederacy. It had gone well, until a being of immense power, a trickster, decided to 'assist' them on their goal and transported them across the galaxy, to the unexplored portion on the other side of the Galactic Core. The planets they found there were certainly suitable for life, but they were also inhabited. And, regrettably, hostile. Surrounded by unknown races that they couldn't communicate with, the fleet moved on, desperate to find a sanctuary to settle the colony on and regain communications with their superiors. That was nearly 125 years ago. It is now 0458 A.C. The fleet still moves on, navigating through friendly space and avoiding pirates and enemy war fleets alike. This is the kind of thing you hear when you wake up. The first thing you'd noticed was the beep of heart monitors. Dozens of them. A blinking light somewhere in your field of vision said 'Awake', and nurses were heading towards you. The room is bright, almost too bright for your eyes, but there are filled beds and people floating in tanks as far as the eye can see. When the nurses finally reach you, they smile in relief and offer you a wheelchair. They don't speak any language you're familiar with, but you have no trouble understanding them. They say it's because of their sleep-learning systems, that they'll tell you everything at the briefing. You are, it seems, one of the lucky ones. Crux Fleet is a space opera, full of adventure, exploration, battles, and possibly a hint of romance. The main influences are Star Trek, Macross, and Star Wars. If you're looking for genres, it's an adventure/exploration game with hints of slice of life and a focus on dealing with new races, hostile and non. We accept OCs, canon OCs, canon characters, canon AUs, and native OCs/AUs. And, yes, there are flesh-eating, fire-breathing space horses.

due to a couple comments over on WG: vorkosiganverse game.

i think it could work as a panfandom jamjar-- maybe some kind of wormhole five-space bullshit gets everyone stuck on Klein station or komarr or one of the other major hubs?-- but it would probably work better as either an AU or an OC game.

the universe is pretty large, so it'd probably be best to have a narrow focus and small playerbase to keep things manageable. keeping the players in the same area, or grouped together in just a few, would make it much easier to manage. say, everyone is playing dendarii mercs, or fighting in one of the wars, or stuck in komarr's domes, etc. unless one wanted to set it up as more of a free-for-all forum game, with different subforums for different locations? i've seen that done, though i'm not terribly fond of the setup.

i've literally only been thinking about this for like an hour so these ideas are kind of bullshit but there they are.

Late 20s to late 30s (can be older if she can pass for someone younger). Blonde, preferably with straight or lightly wavy hair - it's a plus if she wears it in ponytails or up-'dos. Pale, subtle and not over the top with expressions (but no modelface). Must wear glasses. Averageish height, slender but with wide hips and somewhat busty - I know that's the difficult one because Hollywood "curvy" is really different from a legitimate hourglass. I'm willing to compromise on that if they don't look scrawny. Attractive and beautiful, but more of a classic/graceful/sophisticated sort like Katharine Hepburn. A more "professional" appearance over frills and cute girly things is preferred.

I know this is a pretty hard find because of the glasses, so if you know of any specific roles in specific movies (with easily accessible caps/on Netflix), please let me know!

i got like 10 comments into a thread with a castmate before realizing i'd forgotten a piece of canon that would completely change the way my character would interact with them.

we fixed it up fine but i was so embarrassed at the time. :(

how do people feel about someone apping from a canon that hasn't been released widely yet? the canon in question has been out in English in some territories for just over a month now, but it has yet to be released in America. I'd be careful with spoilers but I wanted to see people's general opinions on it before jumping in

If a game is closing in a year when should it stop accepting applications? Or should it let it be like an open DR and allow characters to come in to participate in the final month or so? Most games so far have abruptly ended with only a few actually going through with their end game plot, so I'm curious what mods and players think about this.

The game that I ran had a set ending and a timeline for that ending when I first opened it. Since I knew when it would happen and I had planned out the entire plot from start to finish, I set a kind of "point of no return" for applications.

When the plot started to come to a head and characters and players became aware that it was then possible to solve the main conflict, I announced how much time was left and ran apps for the last time, while providing an in-plot reason for why people suddenly stopped showing up. This was about three months from endgame, if I'm remembering correctly, and while some people dropped or idled out, it evened itself out by having a core cast of about fifteen or twenty characters that propelled the plot through to the finish.

Then I officially announced the end, though I left the comms open so that everyone could take as long as they wanted for their good-byes. Nowadays I don't think that kind of "surprise" plotting would fly with most players, since the preference seems to be for knowing everything in advance, even if I think some surprises now and then add to the excitement in a game.

Maybe we can get some mods or former mods in here sharing their experiences! Dos and Don'ts! Recommendations, things they've done well and maybe things they wish they did better.

Let's get some fresh mod blood inspired here, we really need it.

Make sure your comod is going to be there and put in effort as well.

Sometimes you just cant tell but if theyre starting to show signs plan ahead to find other mods or something.

a question for Pandora Hearts fans and I guess... anyone else remotely familiar with it, what makes Oz Vessalius such a popular character in rp? just about every one I've seen is always bombarded with tags and tons of CR regardless if they're new to the scene or not.

nothing against the players or character himself, I'm just genuinely curious since I can't seem to find anything particularly remarkable about Oz that makes him stand out in rp settings.

That's a good question, I'd be interested in seeing opinions on this too. I don't dislike Oz in the slightest, but I have noticed that he seems to be a very popular character to tag.

What are some other characters you've seen like this? Do you think such characters have anything in common that causes their popularity to spike in that way?

People were encouraging me to play Admiral ZEX in crux fleet, so I'm gonna app him next month. u__u And then he will hit on everyone and bemoan that he is slightly marginalized back home, but he's sure you understand, dear human! After all, humans are people too, just like VUX!

it took me 8 months of quiet fangirling but i think my favourite players and i are finally becoming friends! i'm aware this might sound a bit weird or creepy but i didn't want to barge in and make things awkward by attempting to force myself into their friendship circle so i waited instead. now we're all having nice chats and i'm super happy. it's just great to get along well with rpers you admire a lot!

I wouldn't judge you for that. It felt wonderful when I kind of started casually threading with characters by a player I'd admired from other games, they told me they loved my characters and wanted to keep pursuing CR, and we've been cheerily plotting and chatting ever since. Good for you, anon!
