Someone opted out of a character I play for reasons of squick, and I agreed to never thread with them and avoid their character with mine as much as possible, but since they were clear that even seeing my character in game makes their skin crawl, I feel so awkward every time I notice that we're developing new CR with a lot of the same characters.

No one cares, I know, but I wanted to get it off my chest.

i haven't been doing anything sketchy and nothing comes up on my scans with ccleaner or malwarebytes

i really want to play this one character but i don't have time to app them anywhere (my game roster is full right now) and memes are such a crapshoot that it's getting discouraging.

I wish my castmates would tag outside of the cast.

I'm really conscientious of balancing my cast cr and crosscanon cr across different mediums and canons, and I've gotten some really rewarding cr and development out of it. And of course, my crosscanon cr is curious to know who my character's friends are and/or talk to his canon enemies or see who has influenced him and so they try to tag my castmates and are completely ignored.

I enjoy my cast. We have great threads together. I just wish that they'd tag out because it's really embarrassing to keep making excuses for them completely flaking on my crosscanon cr.

I like making music vids to my favorite fandoms and putting them up on YouTube, mainly just for my own enjoyment. I've gotten the most comments ever on my latest one.....and they're all an argument between two people over whether or not the song is sped up. Argh.

Ironically enough, I didn't even intentionally do it, the version I downloaded already sounded that way.

unpopular opinion, stemming from the character advice thread. i had to get it out.

if you need advice on how to play a character, reconsider whether you should be playing them. it always feels lazy to me when people ask for advice, and receive a very well-analyzed response of that character and their motivations. a character voice should come somewhat naturally, or as a result of your own personal analysis, and if it doesn't, it may not be the right character for you.

you're only going to end up constantly second-thinking and doubting your tags and stressing yourself out trying to be accurate to the analysis that was provided for you, instead of molding and shaping one for yourself as you develop your character voice.

not everyone can play every character, no matter how much you might love them.

i don't see why it has to be an all or nothing deal-- you naturally have the voice, or developing it all yourself, or nabbing it wholesale from someone else's analysis. sometimes people have really different reads on a character, or a character is subject to different interpretations, or has a lot of complicated facets that you want to explore, but aren't sure where to begin, and those are all good reasons to ask for advice. you can have your own analysis and sense of a character and still want other people's input too. it's like crit. asking for or needing crit doesn't necessarily mean you suck shit at a character, and good writers with strong character voices can become better writers with great voices with input and criticism.

i used to rp a lot on gaia, furcadia and neopets when i was much younger, and in my older teen years, started ljrp. when school got more serious i dropped rp and eventually i lost interest and never went back to it. and just now i was reading over dwrp and remembering what i used to enjoy. but my anxiety and panic disorder/paranoia is to such a point that i can't even fathom trying to take part in the hobby again and that makes me incredibly depressed. i already barely manage to enjoy talking to friends and reading books, let alone doing dumb fandom things like fanfic, fanart and rp.

i hate being mentally ill so much. sorry, i just wanted to vent.

i've been busy for days on end and neglecting my tags because of it but now that the weekend's starting, i've just lost all steam even if i have all the time. how do you get yourself fired up again?

netflix or comic scans are my best friends for this, there's always that chance i'll find something that will motivate me. it'll either be a plot or maybe even a new character, but hopefully it ends up being something more plot oriented!

Other thread reminded me: I have a nostalgia for Neopets like you wouldn't believe.

The reason for why it kinda hurts is because unlike pretty much everything else I feel nostalgic about, I can't really indulge in the original anymore even as a guilty pleasure (I really dislike the Viacom changes that happened to the actual site), and I've never found any substitute. Every other pet website I've tried severely half-assed the actual pets and pretty much everything (other than real world money items, of course) was waaaaay too easy to obtain.

okay, so is it okay to 4th wall if your character is from modern day and no characters from the canon are in game? like, is it okay to reference saw or something?

i've looked around for this but it seems like an unspoken rp rule and i haven't been here too long.

yeah, usually. in my experience 4th wall rules are more about informing other characters that they're fictional/referencing the other character's canon, no one's gonna care about referencing a saw movie

I borrowed money for a paid for a couple months from a cast mate when I couldn't afford it. When I got paid a week after borrowing, I told them I could pay them back and they said no. I recently found out we are no longer friends on plurk. I don't want them to start drama in the future over me being a mooch when I could pay them back then and now. Should I offer to repay them one more time or let it be?

It's never stated in canon, but you see enough people using it in their "interpretation" with no real basis or in such a boring, repetitive way that you wish someone would do it differently.

For me, it's the whole "if two guys are in a relationship, one of them must like to wear women's lingerie." Seriously it's a hot kink, but it gets so dull when a guy being even a teensy bit effeminate you see someone wanting to put them in women's lacy underwear.

Where are my burly men shaving themselves down so they can rock stockings and garter belts?

It seems like, if it's not stated in canon either way, people default to "so terrible they burn water". Bonus points if it's a character who has lived on their own and presumably has a kitchen shown in canon. I'm not expecting your character to be a master chef, but come on! Flaws are great and all but being completely incompetent in the kitchen doesn't make your character cute!

See also: the opposite. Godly culinary skills in a character is just as annoying if you can't explain it.

Fuckin' history sections, how do they work?

Any tips on how to write a concise but descriptive history section for a character whose wiki information sucks? My current section is 2000 words long which I have a feeling is just going to make the app mods hate me, but I'm having a hard time editing it down because a lot of the details feel important to me for the character.

put some of it into their personality section

like, "he believes x because when he was a child, y happened" or "due to x incident, she can be y" or something

don't just copy-paste from your history, putting it in terms of how it affects the way they act and think can help you cut it down to the essentials (and if worse comes to worst, a long personality looks better than a long history)
