Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Re: SO YOU DON'T THINK YOU CAN BE A MOD
(Anonymous) 2014-01-17 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)Plots die when players are unsure what they're meant to/allowed to do or they're waiting for hand-holding by the mods. For events, make sure you give a clear description of what will happen and how it might affect player characters. For plots, make sure that you have a goal and options for how to achieve it. Give your players options for how they can involve their characters. Give them the opportunity to pitch in with how their character will contribute or shape the plot.
All of this is why it's a good idea to have co-mods or helper mods btw. Especially if you're running a plot-heavy game. It's creatively draining. Working with co-mods is great because it lightens the load and you can get more done, but it also comes with its own challenges.
First of all: make sure all the mods know what they're doing and how they're expected to behave. As a mod team, you want to speak with one voice and be consistent in how you uphold the rules and run the game as far as possible. The actions of each individual mod reflect on the whole team, and it's important for every mod to remember that.
Secondly: do not let other mods slack off. It's amazing how one or two inactive mods can really slow down or cause problems in a game. And they can stick around for ages because the rest of the mod team lets them. If you can't cut it, step down. The thing is, if one mod isn't pulling their weight or if they're causing problems by breaking rules or getting into conflicts with other players or whatever, it does reflect badly on the whole team. You'll want to sort that out as soon as possible.
Finding good and reliable co-mods is hard. But if you can manage it, they're an absolute godsend. Good luck to all the current and potential mods out there! I've given up modding, but I know how hard you guys work so I'm definitely rooting for you.
