Coming back after a while and out of touch with the current games around. What games are everyone in right now?

I'm looking for an active game that has some plot but isn't intense. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mission-based games. Sex-positive (I don't remember if that was the term?) is alright but sex games are a no. Would be nice if there were a good number of younger characters since I'm thinking of playing a teenager.

I know there's a game advertisements section but word of mouth recommendations are very helpful!

is it still expected for players to have a HMD in their journal? or is that only a thing these days if you're playing in games?

it's not 'expected' to do anything, but it just saves having to do it later if you wind up needing it. i don't know about anyone else, but when i make a new journal for a character, my first posts i put up, regardless of if i've played or not, is an hmd, an ooc post, and permissions, which also double as an opt out. i figure those are the three things that make it easy for people to either put a legit complaint, opt out, or just gush about things not in dm. since every game i've joined in the last few years has required a link to hmds and usually some kind of permissions/opt out, it just makes it one more thing i don't have to set up if i wind up trying for a game.

Bakerstreet memes are designed to be short and quick. I don't understand the complaints about flakers on a community that seems designed solely for flakers like myself. how do you nicely ask an enthusiastic new rp partner to please add some more detail to their tags? we're not on a one-liners level, more like two-to-three-liners. their replies are notably, consistently shorter than what i'm giving them to an extent that it's affecting how much i enjoy the thread - they basically just state what action the character does/what they say and nothing else. i've never really been in this situation before so i don't like... know how to ask without possibly sounding like i don't like their writing or something as opposed to just wanting a little more of it

you accept that you just have different playstyles and a) continue on, knowing you'll never be completely satisfied, or b) drop them as a partner.

those are honestly the only two options i've found to work in the past. sometimes the cr and dynamic is worth it, sometimes it isn't.

no, it's not a coin thing, just bad design. i never bought coins and i have both on my own plurks and my friend's. you just have to hover at the right pixel for it to appear. it's actually been there for years, but every now and then someone says "huh that's a thing???" because it's that easy to miss

why is apping to a dwrp game so much work?

1) write a top level for the tdm. you want to put your best food forward of course so you know this top level is going to take time. and tag around
2) write an app - fine, especially if you're recyling an app, but sometimes you have to start from scratch and that's always a lot of time and energy
3) once you get accepted you have to do the usual paperwork (taken list, make an inbox, link to permissions, add comms, ac page, join chat)
4) write an ooc intro post or fill the next cr meme form

and yes these additional things are optional but lbr, again, you know you want to put your best foot forward and be as approachable as possible to everyone in the game! so you're going to do them!

5) pretty up your journal with navigation, inbox, any other game-specific info stuff such as;
6) fill in any game-specific custom permissions forms or tailor-making game specific info sheets (because so many games give you powers or transformations or inventory or let you do housing or a businesses or whatever)
7) because you want as much visibility and accessibility as possible you're going to cc everything in your plurk and in the game chat
8) finally, after a month of meticulous busywork, you get you play in the first game event

it's been so long since i've been in a game and idk if i'm out of touch or if i'm finally realizing why newbies find dwrp games so daunting. i'm exhausted before i even start playing

When more than half your list is unnecessary fluff (most games don't require you hit the tdm and exactly 0 require you to top level instead of tagging around), this seems like a hell of a lot more of a you problem.

why is playing on memes so much work?

4) post them to every meme, ever, and never get any tags

youve vetoed "engage in other hobbies" but that is legitimately the best advice anyone could give you for this. read a book or take up knitting or something. failing that, find some other threads or ship partners

mostly just do things that allow you to not focus so hard on the perceived slight and might lend you some perspective
