We all love when our CR talks about our characters in threads with other characters, right? That seems pretty universal. It doesn't happen for me very often so imagine my utter delight when my character's significant other mentions mine to another character, specifically as their boyfriend. The other character... doesn't acknowledge it. At all. No curiosity, no nothing, just talked about something unrelated. My character's SO barely ever talks about mine or their relationship with others so I was slightly bummed out that was it, the topic went nowhere. But still happy mine got mentioned at all!

My character frequently talks about their SO and other CR and I try to help others network to get new CR this way. Like "oh, you collect [item]? I know [other CR] who makes them!" I guess it's just kind of disappointing that none of my CR, not even my character's very extroverted SO, ever does the same for me. A lot of the time I feel like I'm interacting with other players in a vacuum where only our characters exist. I wish more players in general would have their characters talk about their CR. It makes RP and the game world feel more immersive and interesting, in my opinion.

That stinks, nonny. Sometimes I run into players who are uncomfortable if a thread isn't always about them, when I do, I just avoid them in the future if I can get away with it. This is a collaborative hobby and the CR that thinks of each other while RPing outside of that circle are real keepers, not only do they tend to be great for continuity but they are often the most collaborative partners to have in this hobby. Find you some like-minded people and all the best. We're out there!

this is why (when situationally relevant) i try to have my character talk about their cr as much as possible. i know how much it means to me, and how much it brightens up other people's days and makes them feel like they're important in the game and matter and are wanted!

i love when it happens to me and it's such a huge bummer when it doesn't. like when you break down any dwrp game it's all the same mechanical stuff. we're all here for the character relations, that back and forth and shared experiences between one character and another. if your character isn't making an impact enough in that way, yeah, it'd be really demoralizing! what's the point! it's like being friends with someone for years but they don't get your name right. feels like whatever you're doing doesn't matter in the end and makes you feel unimportant. you might as well not be there at all.

i hope things change for you nonny. i have dropped games before where i put in and put in and got nothing out of it. if a game's ooc culture is one-sided like that your heartbreak and loneliness and lack of recognition feelings are only going to get worse over time. the worst part is it's usually no one's fault, or no one specific thing's fault. characters organically talking about other characters/recognizing them can be a matter of character type, when you apped in the game, when other people apped into the game, game event styles, and so many other combinations of factors that have nothing at all to do with you.

it's sucks, and i'm not saying don't try if you think it is something you can help (by putting yourself or your character out there more, or even verbalizing oocly how much you like it when other characters talk about yours), but if it's not working out don't beat yourself up. there are greener pastures, other games, other memes, other characters out there too!

(and like, i hate to say this but, if your character is hot/fuckable/from a big popular medium, that also has a lot of sway whether their reputation proceeds them or not in a game)

I just started playing in a proper game after being a meme hell forever and the interconnected CR is so much fun. I try to do my part and name-drop whenever it makes sense. Isn't that how social circles work IRL? You mention what a friend of yours is up to? Or ask about so-and-so's partner? And then when your character actually runs into the mentioned friend/SO, you've got a fun thing to talk about? Rad.

But it falls into that same bucket as being conscientious and showing interest in the other person's character period (especially cross-canon). No bigger bummer than trying to build CR with someone who breezes past everything your character says and turns the conversation back to themselves.

I'm genuinely curious. Do people tag others without intending to reply after? Is that a way to test out a cr without actually giving it a chance? I've had this happen to me before too many times and it has only left me confused since these type of taggers have no qualms being in other memes or giving others more of an opportunity.

It makes me personally only tag in unless I plan to continue the thread for a bit and see if the vibe is there. That's just me. This is no way meant to shame. I'm just curious on what people get out of this method. I mean, go you for following your rp fantasies, but also I love when others tag into my top level (mostly ocs because those don't get much interaction), so it's just slightly disappointing. Tbh, I'm just always excited to test out any potential cr I'm handed!

if i tag a person once in a meme and then immediately stop, one or more of the following happened:

1. i'm not feeling it from your single tag back and don't need further tags to confirm. since you mentioned ocs, i've tagged a few ocs with a cool concept and they tag me back and are as flat as cardboard: i don't need to tag them more times to confirm that they're cardboard.

2. something happened offline and by the time i take care of that i forgot about our 2 tag long thread.

also anything with three syllables but only one set of double letters because i forget which one gets doubled (broccoli is a common one i keep messing up)

Something that came to mind.

How often are characters deliberately written to be hated played in DWRP? I mean characters on the vein of Joffrey from GOT, or Logan Roy from Succession. Characters that have little to no redeeming features. How easy is it to play them?

Reason is, as much as I'd love to see them in a game that deliberately puts them out of their depth and in a karmic payback, I wonder how viable is it to play.

i feel like that kind of character would be difficult to play in anything other than a murder game, tbh. i've seen characters like that played and pulled off wonderfully in murder games because it allows them to continue being their horrible, irredeemable selves while also putting them in a setting that forces interactions with the other characters so the other characters can't do what most sane people would do and just avoid them. i would think it would be much harder in a regular game because while a lot of people enjoy negative cr, there's negative cr of the "these characters really don't get along" sort and then there's "this character is an objectively horrible person" and i think you'd find fewer people willing to go for the second option.
