Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. genuine advice on how to touch grass/uninvest from a specific ship or cr/cope with partner boomeranging with others while more-or-less ignoring you (other than 'engage in other hobbies') please? i know the degree to which i'm upset isn't great but i don't know how to make myself stop thinking about it. thank you

go do something else with your time

youve vetoed "engage in other hobbies" but that is legitimately the best advice anyone could give you for this. read a book or take up knitting or something. failing that, find some other threads or ship partners

mostly just do things that allow you to not focus so hard on the perceived slight and might lend you some perspective

1. make an account for a new character you've been thinking of but haven't gotten around to trying out yet
2. go onto bakerstreet
3. go to the random scenario meme since i'm pretty sure that's up
4. tag x number of people with some generic easy prompt
5. enjoy those threads/get pissed off about bakerstreet flakes instead

or...

just find the people in your life who are making you a priority and reach out to them instead of wasting your time on someone who you feel like is blowing you off.

and re:#2 i've been trying to train myself to think about/put my energy into threads/cr with the people who are clearly excited for our cr/enjoying our threads and leave very little energy for the people who leave little space for me but it's definitely a process

yeah, anytime, glad i could help! i always got over things quicker when i had a new project to shift my energy to, plus the nice thing about this is that if things don't click you can just blame it on bakerstreet flakes and shrug it off or blame it on voicetesting or w/e.

i can't get too specific for your game because i don't know who you are or what game you're in, but the general principle is the same there tbh. if you've got a piece of ship/cr that really isn't doing it for you because of ooc friction/boomeranging people not you/whatever, then figuring out some plot you'd be interested in running and tossing it at people who are invested in tagging with you is the quickest way of getting over it. more room for other cr and other plots = less room for the disappointing cr, and the smaller it is the easier it is for you to look it over from all sides and just really figure out how you feel about it and what to do with it.

1.) if you share social media with them (like discord or plurk), either unfollow them or close the conversation for as long as you need so you don't talk about it with them.
2.) play with new people, preferably in a comm different from where most of their tagging goes. if it's a game, go to bs. if it's bs, try game tdms.
3.) don't talk about them. don't bring them up in conversation when you can. if you get the urge to, think of another thread or topic you are also interested in and discuss that. talking about something makes your brain remember it more and it becomes more natural for it to bring it up.

these might sound extreme but I find that overinvestment tends to be a form of validation seeking. the main thing you need to do is to find yourself someone else you enjoy tagging, and to lessen your need to have that person pay attention to you.

when you feel better you can follow them or chat with them again, but until then I think it helps to distance yourself from it.
