Humanity has expanded its borders. Forming a Confederation of Inhabited Systems with several other races discovered after First Contact, and facing the strain on their home planet, mankind took to the stars, placing colonies first in their own systems, then in friendly systems, and finally in roving colony fleets. The 43rd Scutum-Crux Fleet was designed to colonize any HZ-class planet, with a cityship, three gargantuan agricultural vessels, and a fleet of nearly a dozen warships to protect such easy targets from pirates, slavers, and enemies of the Confederacy. It had gone well, until a being of immense power, a trickster, decided to 'assist' them on their goal and transported them across the galaxy, to the unexplored portion on the other side of the Galactic Core. The planets they found there were certainly suitable for life, but they were also inhabited. And, regrettably, hostile. Surrounded by unknown races that they couldn't communicate with, the fleet moved on, desperate to find a sanctuary to settle the colony on and regain communications with their superiors. That was nearly 125 years ago. It is now 0458 A.C. The fleet still moves on, navigating through friendly space and avoiding pirates and enemy war fleets alike. This is the kind of thing you hear when you wake up. The first thing you'd noticed was the beep of heart monitors. Dozens of them. A blinking light somewhere in your field of vision said 'Awake', and nurses were heading towards you. The room is bright, almost too bright for your eyes, but there are filled beds and people floating in tanks as far as the eye can see. When the nurses finally reach you, they smile in relief and offer you a wheelchair. They don't speak any language you're familiar with, but you have no trouble understanding them. They say it's because of their sleep-learning systems, that they'll tell you everything at the briefing. You are, it seems, one of the lucky ones. Crux Fleet is a space opera, full of adventure, exploration, battles, and possibly a hint of romance. The main influences are Star Trek, Macross, and Star Wars. If you're looking for genres, it's an adventure/exploration game with hints of slice of life and a focus on dealing with new races, hostile and non. We accept OCs, canon OCs, canon characters, canon AUs, and native OCs/AUs.

Original Region Pokemon Game

I posted my revised proposal sort of late last time, so here it is again!

- Set in a totally new region (that's tentatively named Novesta) loosely based on Russia and Scandinavia. Cities, routes, gym leaders, and Pokemon distribution will all be original, though I won't try to make any new Pokemon.

- Game will start off with two major cities, two major towns, six routes, and 4-6 'dungeons' to explore. The emphasis on exploration will be huge. These numbers aren't exact and will be altered as needed, but are a general idea of what we'll have to work with.

- Backstory: Novesta has always been a windy place with harsh winters, and many people have been unintentionally forced there by unpredictable winds, dangerous ocean waters, and the odd accident. It was never really any trouble, but 5/10/20 years ago a legendary Pokemon (Articuno, probably) was weakened from battle and thus forced to land a valley in the eastern part of the region and rest. This would have been fine but when it tried to leave it found itself too weak to escape past the sheer winds of the mountains surrounding the valley. The Pokemon flew into frustrated rage at knowing it was unable to return home, which in turn plunged the valley's weather even deeper into chaos. All land, air, and sea routes into the valley have since become too dangerous to traverse.

- The first arc of the game will focus on calming said legendary Pokemon down long enough to open the routes to the rest of the region.

- Again, characters can be OU, native AU, or OCs (native or otherwise). Some canon Pokemon characters will be open for application under special circumstances. More will be opened for application as the game progresses.

- Non-native characters will be able to appear in a few different places (which I haven't nailed down yet). There will be a plot-related reason for their arrival, but it won't be obvious what that reason is until the characters advance the plot. The consistent factor is that all the characters will have been traveling somewhere just before they were drawn into the world.

- Pokemon selection will initially be very limited. There will be 6 to 12 Pokemon that are only available as starters plus whatever are available on the routes, dungeons, and so on. More Pokemon will become available as the game progresses and more of the region opens up.

- Powers will be intact but reduced.

- Network will be very simple and mostly one-on-one, like the Holo Caster, Pokegear, etc. Open posts will be possible but they'll be voice only, real-time, not archived, and they won't have privacy options (that's what the one-on-one calls are for). Thread jacking and eavesdropping won't be possible unless you're literally right there in the room. Like all things, the network will be something the characters can work on improving through events and player plots.

- Haven't decided what exactly to do with whatever Team is running around the area. They'll be present during the first arc but their involvement probably won't become a big thing until the second.

- Pretty much everything will be open to players if they put the work in for it. They can become gym leaders, famous coordinators, business owners, breeders, explorers, Team Whatever members, Team Whatever administrators, Pokemon professors, rangers, police officers, Pokecenter workers, and so on.

- Maybe eventual expansion into other, canon regions, too?

For the anons helping me in this (http://rpanons.dreamwidth.org/41286.html?thread=120671558#cmt120671558) thread, manually changing the channel and port the cable is in worked for a few hours but the connection dropped off again.

Another thought that has occurred to me is if it could be the new PC tower I'm on. My previous desktop and old laptop never had a problem with the Netgear router dropping off the connection. It was only after connecting a new PC desktop to the router (after the other desktop quit on me completely) that the connection issues started happening. Is there a possibility it's the new PC itself causing the issue?

So, say you've got NPCs in the setting who are supposed to be competent at the very least. How can you convey that without having them overshadow the players or making them seem like incompetents in order to make the players look better?

have them and the players have different areas of competence? you can have extremely competent bureaucrats and managers while the players are skilled combatants, or brilliant engineers who are only interested in rockets while the players build robots, or...

also if the npcs are at the top of their totem pole they might be out of sight dealing with issues that may not directly effect the players (if there's a war the admiral or general is on a different front) or that are out of scale for the players to deal with (the king is too busy trying to keep a revolution from sparking to go kill that dragon himself) or what-not.

I'm in a motel right now that allows no guests and no pets. My sister who knows this well comes over with her dog, who starts barking loudly. And instead of trying to get the dog to stop, starts barking back. I hit her lightly on the arm to get her attention. Seriously, it was a nudge. My sister is now screaming "attack". I'd be surprised but she cries when something even slightly surprises her.

when y'all hit up random people and/or anons for psls, how much personal information do you exchange? do you swap plurks, let them know your tagging schedule, tell them you're in school/at work/at home, or anything? does this change over time? (you start out with almost no ooc info, and then eventually start chatting more etc.)

i guess i'm just curious about how other people do it, cause i've kept a pretty strict no ooc stuff restriction with anon rp partners for a while due to past drama-- but i've got a couple of pretty cool writing partners that i'm interested in getting to know ooc, maybe.

i prefer aim to plurk and it seems like there are still plenty of psl players who use aim, so we usually exchange screennames and chat on a casual basis. i don't feel like i have to tell them my whole life story or anything, and i don't feel like we have to chat every night or even every week, but gradually we'll start talking about common interests and sometimes a friendship happens. i don't have to be friends with everyone i rp with - a lot of people are happiest playing with a minimum of ooc contact, and i can respect that - but it sure is an awesome bonus when i do find somebody who's fun to talk to.

plurk's a little different, imo, since the amount of contact is less gradual. i've been turned off from rping with people because they overshare and seek attention and post constantly, so i'm kinda wary of swapping plurks unless we've known each other for a little while.

there's someone in my fandom who grudgewanks against ships they don't like and then tries to back it up with "well i talked to one of the layout artists and he doesn't ship it either!! WORD OF GOD!!"

bizarrely stupid ship-policing and insistent use of tvtropes terminology aside, since when does a random layout artist who has nothing to do with the writing or story count as "word of god", let alone trump things the actual writers have said
