Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Oh my, count me in for this. I love the idea, it'd give me somewhere to put normals who I otherwise don't enjoy playing as much ^^ And I love games that change the characters themselves, too.

As for input:

1. I looooove historical fantasy, but you might not get much traction there. Maybe something steampunk ish to give a modern feel to it and attract more potential platers?

2. Somebody else mentioned were-creatures as opposed to wolves, which I also highly approve of. I had a were-snake in one game once, and he was amazing, okay. And a were-bear. And a were-jackrabbit. Seriously, widen the spectrum there, to give a bit more room to play with :3 Also, golems, maybe include some form of angel/demon, dryads/sea nymphs, nagas, gorgons, those awesome swamp demon horses whose name I can't recall right now? Go wild, let's have a couple dozen different types. Even ghosts can be done well if you're careful and give them visibility/telekinesis abilities.

3. I also agree on having nix options if a player REALLY didn't want to play out a character type (some people are squicked by mind control and so wouldn't want to be a mind flayer or a vampire with compulsion, others are grossed out by zombies, etc). Maybe give players a couple options to choose from...?

4. There's been a few ideas touted about the NPCs, particularly the one about an organization, which I also like. It'd give a good, solid way to continue plotting even after people are starting to get used to things-- jobs for the "guild" or "group", inter-group problems/wars, even people prejudiced against different supernatural types.

5. No jamjar type plots please :| I hate those with a fiery passion and that would be reason for me to avoid the game, in the end. No body swap, no gender swamp, no sudden love enzymes, nada. I like plots that are centered in the game environment, like as mentioned above, the NPC organizations, or other supernatural types (demons? animal types?) attacking, political/magical intrigue, freak storms, wars, etc.

KELPIES thank you person on plurk. Also, selkies. Seal-people ftw. And phoenixes. Seriously, I love fantasy creatures.

I keep having more thoughts :| Like maybe to alieviate the problem of players wanting to nix their given character types, have the app include a place to list preferences, and have people list like five options? That'd give the mods choice, but give players choice, too.

... I have a lot of feels about this game idea, okay. I love it. I would even potentially help mod, especially when it comes to the creature and worldbuilding aspects.

As long making specific choices/preferences is optional, or maybe have a place to opt out of certain kinds of monsters instead of opt-in! I have to admit I really like the idea of it being a surprise - that and letting players pick might let the more popular types of monsters go overrepresented.

And maybe people whose characters were supernatural creatures in canon could have the choice to make their character whatever they were again (except the game's equivalent - I'm guessing an in-game standard werewolf wouldn't be identical to most canons' werewolves) or not?

How would you guys feel about perhaps having groups instead of specific monsters they'd be locked into?

EX: Let's say we have Undead, Weres, Fae, and Demons (I'd be willing to allow one opt-out with this system unless we end up having 10+ groups, then two opt-outs). So, if your character ended up in the Undead group, they could pick from vampires, zombies, etc rather than being locked into one. There's be limits on what you could pick from so you can't be a were-wolf-dragon-unicorn or anything, but it might make things a bit more flexible while still keeping a surprise.

Definitely would have to be an opt-out option for at least one group. I know I for one really would not want to be in the undead group, heh, unless it included some kind of like. Flesh golem or something.

But having some range of choice for the players I think will allow them to feel they have a little control, too. I have somebody on AIM right now who is ALL OVER this idea but does want some control over what her characters wind up as, which would make or break the game for her, and I'm middle of the road: I like surprise, but I don't like having no control, either.

So, opt out of one or two groups, maybe a list of squicks or something along those lines, and let the mods take it from there? :|a

(Anonymous) 2014-02-08 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
At least, yeah. Maybe a place to list one or two preferences for type which is not mandatory? It would be easy, if you're going to have over-arching groups with several types within each type, to have an opt-in option as well/in exchange for.

I think my friend on AIM put it nicely: " Different people will have different preferences. Granted the mods of a game can establish any rule they like, but for broad appeal, you go for more options. :B "

Maybe put the list of squicks as part of the app? You could screen them or make them e-mail app only if people don't want to openly share those.
