Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

RORSCHACH | WATCHMEN

Planning on playing him from the movie. Looking for any tips I can get; I'm especially worried about being consistent with his speech patterns because he seems to fluctuate between fragments and whole sentences fairly often (especially in the comic), but I noticed that it seems like he saves the latter for when he's out of costume.

I'm useless at picking up speech pattern stuff so my only advice: don't ever read the before watchmen stuff unless as you desperately need to laugh.

I'm hardly an expert on Rorschach, but he is my favorite character, so here's my two cents on it. Eliminate most of the uses of the word I, me, we, and anything else that refers to his personal self. He rarely uses it, turning something like, "I think we should investigate" into "Think we should investigate" or even "Should investigate." He just seems to assume the other characters around him will understand what he's saying and for the most part, he's right. Most of the superheroes he interacts with have known him for years and are used to his weird speech patterns.

As Walter, he doesn't have that luxury, and so he's forced back into regular speech patterns. Even in prison, he reverts back to them. ("I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me!") It ties into the psychological element of how he feels he's no longer a person when he's in his mask, merely an idea or tool to be used to carry out justice. Outside the mask, he's back to being a mere person who has to communicate same as the rest of people around him.

One last thing that springs out at me is that he does seems to be a fan of using puns, no matter how bone-dry they are. "Human bean juice." "Tall order. Fat chance." "Never disposed of garbage using toilet before. Obvious really." It shows he still has a sense of humor, no matter how morbid or underdeveloped it might be.

+1
