i will never understand why some people app characters from canon points where they have no more conflict or growth opportunities left. can someone explain to me the appeal of that? what's the fun of playing a character who has tied up all their loose ends and solved all of the issues they had in canon? i honestly don't understand.

sometimes there are things in a story in-progress that are prohibitive to rp (character is insufferably bratty because they haven't had their defining arc, is dying from some disease that would cause problems in play, doesn't have a certain key skill or didn't meet a key person yet, etc.). most of the time i find people do this because their castmates also took post-series canon points and they want everyone to be on the same page.

personally i support taking characters from earlier canon points, but from an organizational perspective it's often easiest to slap "post-canon" on so there's no need to retread canon ground and a character can develop elsewhere. development and growth IS still possible from such canon points if the player is creative.

absolutely. she comes from a canon that basically lives on this principle and that's just living life to the fullest, you can die at any point might as well make it fun

I used to watch a bunch of stuff online with one person, not really rp, but since they turned out to be an asshole irl I've been missing sharing that kind of bond with someone. I don't really want to go outside of dwrp because I still want rp to be an optional topic, especially with someone who shares my interests.

I was wondering if anyone else might be interested in finding buddies kind of like we find rp partners here? List your preferences (movies, tv, anime, etc), timezone, and any other specifics?

so i know there are comm like app-this-plz and dw-community-promo to search for rp games. but it's hard to find those that are network + prose based rp comm, and prose-only rp comm. i've a few requested if anons here would like to help this anon.

1. prose only games - a focus on prose/log rather than a network + log rp game. please rec. preference for slow-mid pace.

2. sex rp games - either prose only or network+prose. a few i've come across are city of ariel, amat, zodion. and more recent ones like town of salem, carvaka, and tanagura. and i think eudio also? any others can rec?

thelegion is prose only in the logs comm, and while there is a network comm it's not the main focus and not as heavily used. Pace is slowish, though some people tag faster; the slowness is largely related to the game just being pretty small so there's only so much happening at once.

It's not a sex game, though, I cannot help you with those.

do you actively manage your inbox? make sure there's no unreads? or let everything pile up and not let it bother you with 15k bolded emails in your inbox? is there a difference between personal emails and the one you use for RP?

I have 4 email addresses: work, personal(slash semi professional because I use it for organizations that I volunteer for or have a leadership position in), RP and other random internet accounts, and a stores email address

I like to get to "zero" once a week where everything is read, responded too, archived, or deleted for my work and and personal account. RP is a little harder, so I tend to just periodically search for things older than a month and delete them if they aren't tag notifs (which I like to keep so I can search for old threads and read them again sometimes). The stores email is a mess which I don't check very often but when I do I just tend to delete everything older than 2 weeks

I also use unroll.me to manage subscription clutter, which I'll read and then delete.

Well I personally can't write shit if I'm feeling depressed at all. No clue how some people write so much when they seem to be dealing with that stuff. I know everyone's different but I get so completely blocked I can't do it at all.

Maybe canon review? That's how I usually get inspired for a character again when I do want to RP.

Question time! How many times should you speak to a problem player one-on-one about consistent inappropriate behavior before taking everything to a mod? Examples include: Derailing non-sexual in character threads with overtly sexual humor, ignoring permission posts of characters, infomodding, etc.

Once is enough for bigger things (creepy sex jokes, ignoring permissions). That gives them a fair chance to get their shit together. I'd give them more leeway with minor things/things that aren't necessarily bad, but you absolutely don't have to do it more than once.

I wouldn't see a huge issue with it. Maybe they don't have a credit card or bank account to be able to use Paypal easily. Also Paypal charges fees so something like that would actually work well.

Though if I were going to ask for it myself, I'd just say buy me an Amazon gift card.

if you rp a character who's mildly racist (as in they don't use slurs and actively endorse hate, but have dumb stereotypical ideas about people who are different), should you drop the racism in public for ease of play, or just set them up with a warning/permissions post and be cautious about who you tag?

i highlight that in the personality section of their app, have a permissions post, and mention it again when i introduce the character in the ooc comm (with the added note that if anyone's uncomfortable with that they can list their characters on my hmd as an opt-out)
