Trapped in the city of one loo

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

They do if they have no/crappy power steering. :(

is this a thing that happens? ive had fucking junkers from the 90s that didn't require that

that seems extremely dangerous

it's a thing. i'd often heard people saying "my power steering's out" but it never really meant anything to me until a friend asked me to drive his car home and its power steering was out. it's so much harder to steer, especially if you're going a slow speed or starting from a stop. you have to turn the wheel HARD to get it to go where you want it to go and it's basically a fight the entire time. by the time i got it out of a shopping mall parking lot I was like "get over your headache fast, otherwise we're going to die."

yeah. older cars might not have it at all, and it's possible for it to go out on cars that do have it. sometimes you can still drive them, though maneuvering at low speeds is seriously difficult - you have to really crank the wheel, and you'll be sore as shit by the time you're done driving.

it's worth remembering that "no power steering" and "broken power steering" are two very different things. cars without it are designed to still be handle-able

yes, this.

also, most cars without power steering are not front wheel drive. the rise of power steering as standard means a lot of newer cars are, and those are a whole fuck of a lot harder to handle if the power steering goes out.
