Trapped in the city of one loo

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

anons with laptops, how do you transport your laptop if you're moving to another room or another part of the room?

i saw somebody on one of my shows holding it by the edge of the monitor and i was horrified. do people actually do that??? all that i can see is a fucked up monitor in that laptop's future.

i carry mine close to me with my arm under it sort of like i'm carrying a platter.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-24 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
i usually hold it close to my chest with both hands wrapped around it

(Anonymous) 2016-03-24 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
i insert it deeply into my own anus with only the power cord dangling out, so i can pull it out when i reach the destination

i see you worked for apple

i basically do that, but sometimes necessity forces me to hold it by an edge. i try to pick it up quickly if that happens and i try to hold it by the base, not the monitor, because i don't want to stress the hinge

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
fold it and tuck it under my arm

if i saw someone lift their laptop by the monitor i'd probably scream

not always feasible with a mac as closing the lid automatically puts the computer to sleep and there's no way to turn it off

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
wow that's incredibly lame, i didn't know that

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
yeah :( you can get a third-party app that allows it but you shouldn't need a third party app for something so basic, and there's some question whether having the app might fuck with your warranty

(Anonymous) 2016-03-25 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Holding a laptop by the monitor is far more likely to void the warranty than a third party app is. That can actually cause the laptop to break or come apart in a way that no company will cover under warranty and it's a very expensive repair.

There are better ways to carry than by the monitor though if you can't close it. At least hold it by the base part that has the keyboard and such. The part with the monitor isn't as heavy and not made to hold the full weight of the laptop and if that breaks the cost of repairs is around the cost of a new laptop.
