would you find it weird if you were approached by someone you don't know who was just testing a character out on your game's tdm and asked if you would reply to their post? normally i just ask whoever is already in the game on my plurk to do it but it doesn't look like anyone is in it this time around.

It's no help for you right now, anon, but I found that the timer caps for rx bottles are super helpful for this. They're pretty simple - just run a timer that resets to 0 every time the bottle is opened.

Stepping away from Plurk and only checking it maybe once a week has done a lot of good for my mental health. I love my friends but seeing constant negativity and news updates/anxiety etc is just... a lot. Not that my friends are always negative, but there’s a lot of venting on Plurk, you know? It’s easier to handle when I only see a bit of it.

So, hi! Firstly I'm not a tumblr transfer (asifthatmeansanything) I actually found this place through tumblr's theft- I mean, hotlinking without credit icons made here. Anyways!

- If someone who's infamous was playing the same canon I'm going to, would that reflect on me at all? I know some people can have characters ruined for them but would it be to the point that I can't get tags in games even when tagging out and going crossmedium?

- Problematic canons: Do they matter? I don't just mean questionable discourse I'm talking full on neckbeard stuff. I like the series and the characters in it but I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable and still really want to play her in a game. It's all about getting enough activity to be active and not turned down by like 80% of a game. (As an aside the character has a sexual aspect to them that would be downplayed for nonsexual games and kept relatively the same in smut and/or smut friendly games with player communication being key) (Extra aside I've been trying out memes and browsing other accounts (journals?) to get a decent feel but I know memes can be far more lenient apparently? So yeah!)

- How hard is it to find games/tdms/etc? I've only started browsing RPanons recently but I'm not getting a ton of places to look at.

- Is Plurk necessary or some other form of social media to keep in contact with people? I wouldn't just use it for plotting cause I'd want to y'know, make friends, talk about fandoms, all that fun completely normal stuff that normal people do.

- What are some key tips to keep in mind when the last thing I want to do is step on any toes/bother and/or skeeve someone out/etc? I know this entire post sounds like I'm socially inept (I promise I'm not!!) but it's more just that I'm anxious (part of that is excitement no doubt) about joining a new RP community.

1. not really. there are a couple canons people side-eye because they've been at the center of a lot of things (resident evil comes to mind specifically) but generally we're pretty good about not tarring people with the same brush in that specific way.

2. people might roll their eyes at you for playing from a neckbeardy canon but again, the way you do it is what's going to matter. i remember someone apping a literal hentai character to a game i was in and a lot of us thought ew what a weird kink vehicle, but we tagged them anyway, and they ended up being a really cute character who was well-liked.

3. easy! check out the resources link on this top post.

4. if you want to actually make friends here i'd say plurk is the way to go about that. it's not necessary for strictly keeping in contact though, lots of people do fine with just discord or even just pms.

5. respect people's preferences, don't whine too much or beg for constant reassurance (being new and needing some guidance is fine), and be willing to put in the work to get the play/cr you want. should be fine after that.

rpanons, i trust you more than i trust wg, so i have a question.

say you play from a relatively small canon, so castmates are rare. there's one ship in that canon that is polarizing: either you recognize it for the Bad Trash it is and dislike it, or you're gross and absolutely love it. there really isn't a middle ground, either you like it or you hate it.

anyway - you play one of the characters involved in said ship, and meet someone who plays the other. they're halfway decent and you like writing together. and then you find out they're in the camp of people who love that bad ship. what would you do?

i'm the person who loves the bad ship in this scenario, and have no idea how the other person feels about it. i can't ask because if they don't ship it and they find out i do, i don't want to scare them away. i'm perfectly capable of playing the character without shipping factoring into my characterization and that's how i've been playing them thus far, but i'm still so worried about chasing off this amazing castmate i've found. i can't even guess on their opinion of The Bad Ship because it doesn't come up in conversation, that's how taboo it is. so if they ship it too, i may have found my match. if they don't, i am perfectly willing to keep it as far away from them as possible, but i don't want them to think that's all i'm after. i just want that tasty drama, is all i want. shipping is tertiary.

anyway: what would you do if you were in their shoes and found out your rp partner shipped something Bad And Wrong?

dude, as long as you're upfront with the fact that you might ship it, but you don't expect it and you're willing not to mention it again after the fact if it bothers them, then i know i personally wouldn't care. i wouldn't be judging you for it unless you started trying to slip it in there. if you don't, then who cares? and maybe they ship it. win win.

Has anyone else used a rename token, and then discovered that they can't delete, screen, freeze, or track comments? I can still edit my own, and have no issues with posting and editing journal entries to my own journal or to communities. It's super irritating.

If you've experienced this, did you ever find a fix?

i think somebody's been stealing my packages because there's two now i've been expecting that i've never received (nothing expensive, nothing insured, but it's My Stuff that i paid for, not some rando's)

i'm thinking of leaving decoy packages on my step filled with gross shit to see if 1) someone is actually taking my stuff and 2) it deters them if so. good idea/bad idea?

TIME MANAGEMENT: the game we all suck at

i'm a full time employee who is struggling to manage their large game, work, and a social life. it was fine when i only had 1 character in 1 game, and now with 2 characters, my tagging speed is suffering a lot; i went from a reliable daily boomeranger to tagging once every few days. and to top it off, a friend wants me to join their (very small) game with a new character, and i'm very interested; if i drop my second character at my 1st game, it'll really dick over some CR, and i'm still having fun playing them anyway!

obviously, i'm not going to do it... unless!: those of you who do it well, how do fellow FT adult anons manage more than 1-2 characters, or more than 1 game?

i've never really played more than 1 character before, so i feel like i'm probably missing some tips.

i learned how to stop stressing and love the variable tag speed

that's my serious answer: some days i have time and energy to boomerang 5 threads 15 times each, some times i'll do a single round and then not do any more. if i get too overwhelmed i drop some threads. if i do all my tags at 6 in the morning before i go to work and then tag not at all for the rest of the day, that's just what happens.

some people i know schedule tag time into their day/week but tbh i'm just too lazy to do that and it makes rp feel more like extra work, so that doesn't work for me but it seems to work for some people?

Just a question borne of curiosity from finding it hard to get people to tag back. Are you more or less inclined to tag back when tagged by a really off the wall and odd character you weren't expecting on a meme? Like if you were playing Dean Winchester, how would you react if Detective Pikachu tagged you in a thread? Or if you were RPing from something like Fargo or The Sopranos and Rapunzel or Snow White tagged you, would you tag back?

Recently, I've implemented this good advice:

[...] narration is a point-of-view, so when you're referring to him in narrative (rather than a character mentioning him in dialogue), the name should be consistent, and probably should be the name you'd most like the reader to associate with the character, for whatever reasons or preferences of your own.

I used to shift between first name, last name, title, etc., because I felt it added variety and interest to my writing, especially when having to write two of the same gender of characters. I'd always done this, so I was surprised to realize the standard is different. Do I think my writing is more lackluster since the change? No, but I do think that it plays more stiffly than before. And while I've never been beyond breaking a few rules for style, I feel like this is a positive change overall, so I think I'll keep it.

Do you or have you run into stuff like this, anons? I'd love to hear more about what people struggle with. Are there any writing "rules" you just can't be bothered with? And what becomes an instant turnoff to you as a writing partner when you see it come up in your partners' tags? What rule do you always forget no matter how many times you look it up?

I hate that I've given you the impression that I will wait forever for your tags while you actively tag back everyone else. You say our CR is important and your favorite, and it was mine, too, but if I only get to tag with you once every two weeks, do you really think it's going to stay that way?

I don't mind waiting if you're too busy to tag at all but not if you're not too busy and not prioritizing me because you think I'll never leave or lost interest. I will, if this keeps up.
