Rundown:

rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

- If someone who's infamous was playing the same canon I'm going to, would that reflect on me at all?
No. Some might be wary due to past experience, but most players shrug and move on from stuff. Long as you avoid the mistakes that made that player infamous, you're golden.

- Problematic canons: Do they matter?
Not really. Long as its clear to other players you do want to play this character and not fetishes and shit in public games, you're fine. You should dot your i's and cross your t's though. Check the game rules' and FAQ to see if they allow certain character types or games in. Always have a permission post and an optout post up so people can use that if they don't want that. Always link said posts during CR memes too. Long as you don't force it on others and give them. you should be good.

- How hard is it to find games/tdms/etc?
Not that hard. Keep an eye out for the ENABLEMEPLZ event (

enablemeplz) to see what games are advertising or opening. It happens on the last Saturday of every month.

Hell- Sometimes I like to sometimes peek at the random community button (https://www.dreamwidth.org/community/random) + the latest button page (https://www.dreamwidth.org/latest) and I stumble across games that are being made.

- Is Plurk necessary or some other form of social media to keep in contact with people?
Yes. Most people use it for plotting and putting up toplevels or posts of their character. It's handy to keep track of your CR's ongoing stuff. I vastly prefer it to Discord game chats, which have a lot of pitfalls that AIM. With Plurk, you can curate your list of friends and your plurks with the privacy settings. Hell you can mute your mutuals and not have them on your timeline but they're still on your list.

I highly recommend having Plurk Savior on if you use Google Chrome. Add certain keywords in it and it will hide the plurks that have that in their body of message. You can use also add the link of emotes if you don't want to see those too.

- What are some key tips to keep in mind when the last thing I want to do is step on any toes/bother and/or skeeve someone out/etc?
Have the following up in your journal right away: HMD, permissions post, first impressions. With what you said earlier, I also suggest the optout post too.
If you want, add a link to your character's canon so they can read up on it.
No means no. Don't push for ships, threads, or anything on anyone if they turn you down or hem or haw. The fastest way to get people suspicious of you.

That Chrome plugin looks nifty and unless it’s been mentioned elsewhere and I missed it: what’s a First Impressions? Is it self-explanatory or something specific?

first impressions post is a post that lists all the things someone will notice about your character right off the bat. their appearance, their mannerism, their magical aura if they have one. very useful reference people will use when describing your character in their character's eyes.
