Super Robot Wars Unification

SRWU is a small, multi-fandom crossover DWRP inspired by Super Robot Wars, a popular franchise of turn based strategy games based around giant robot combat. In our game, player characters become members or close allies of the Unity Group, an organization dedicated to battling many threats that endanger the Earth Sphere, both internal and external - alien invaders, rampaging monsters, hostile human groups and many more.

In SRWU, events play out not only as DW posts, but also during AIM-run missions - combat operations during which player characters engage enemy forces in battle. Such missions are always scheduled in advance (from a RL perspective, not necessarily an IC one) and usually last 3 hours each, with an average of 2 missions being run per week, 6 to 9 player character combatants present in each mission.

Unlike crossover games that whisk characters away from their canons and place them in a completely new setting, SRWU integrates the characters' canons together - their events play out during the course of the game. However if one so decides, there is an option to app a character without any corresponding canon events.

Although SRWU is a mecha game, non-giant robot canons are accepted if they fit thematically. OCs are also accepted.

Anyone still remember this game idea? Because I have been plugging away at it. Check out my profile to see what's been done so far. Things like reserves/apps/taken list/etc don't work yet and the Bestiary entries aren't all complete but you can take a look at some of them!

Things I've been working on:

1. I don't want this to be the type of game with a lot of boundaries, where everything has a couple set outcomes and characters are extremely limited. As such, I designed the game world with a thriving, populous human society and no all-powerful NPCs exerting pressure on the characters. This'll take cooperation from the players as obviously we don't want nightly 100-person massacres, but if you want to be a monster movie star or hired hitman or start a gang you totally can. If you want your character to live with other player characters on the fringes of society, you can do that too. I want to find the right mix of allowing for options and leaving things so open ended that people don't know what to do, though.

2. Monster customization! Okay, so this is why I've been taking so long with this game. I think I rewrote the Vampire and Werewolf pages alone a good ten times. Initially there were mandatory and optional changes, extra changes that would happen during the fog only, and a further selection of a few abilities and drawbacks from a list after a few more months in game. This was really complicated and a lot of reading, so now we're down to mandatory and optional changes which I hope allows for enough creativity. Because of the customization available there's going to be some sort of system where players put a description of what their character actually looks like/can do in their journals.

3. Mods dropping hints in the threads of new, unchanged characters sometimes isn't going to happen. Thinking about it, it'd be a lot of work for little effect.

4. I know I have the godawful default layout right now. I'm terrible with layouts and the game isn't finished anyways. I'm not planning on keeping it default, don't worry.

Things I'm still debating:

1. Network. My original plan was to have no network right away but have it be implemented by an NPC as the outcome of an early plot, but I don't know if that would be too big of a turn-off. I was also thinking the network would be text-only, maybe text and audio only, but I'm not sure about that either.

2. App periods. Currently its every two months because characters complete their changes every two months and having multiple groups of unchanged newbies to keep track of might get hectic. EDIT: Also, for the very first app group, I'm considering having their changes come after one month instead of two because two months of waiting without knowing anything or having other already-changed characters there to make them dread what's about to happen might be a little boring.

3. Monster choice! This is the big one. Currently I'm debating two methods.

The opt-out method: Closest to my original plan. You could opt out of up to 5 choices and the mods will decide from the rest. There would be a section on the app where you'd have to list a few key character traits and a choice to have them turned into something fitting (ex: an elegant and refined character as a vampire) or something opposite their personality (ex: an elegant and refined character as a troll). The biggest concern about this system would be the potential for others to start drama about mod choices and/or demand reasoning on one choice over another when most characters are going to fit multiple options, and if the player opts out of the most appropriate options there might be some odd choices.

The opt-in method: Players would have to choose at least 5 options and the result would be selected randomly from those. A little more impartial and easier for players to narrow down to their few favorites but a little less personal.

Sorry this got a little tl;dr but I'd love to get some input on this and comments in general on the pages I've completed so far.

i actually have a really hard time staying interested in tags that are super bare-bones. not ecats exactly but if there's just minimal info about what the character is saying and doing and nothing about how they feel/their tone/the mood it's just like eh

pet owners (or dog owners specifically) who aren't socially inept, i need your help.

is it socially acceptable to give "reject toys/treats" (stuff your pet doesn't like) to your friends/neighbors?

if it's a bag full of treats and your pet only had a few, i'm sure it's fine, but what if it's a slightly used bone/toy that got chewed on a little?

someone who lives nearby has a cute husky that my dog and i visit sometimes and i don't know how weird it would be to ask "hey, i bought my dog this thing but they don't like it, do you think your dog might like it?" i don't know them, i just know that they're nice people with a nice husky and they think my dog and i are cute and nice.

Don't forget that people used to think diseases were caused by demons in your blood and bowels and had to be purged via bleeding and purging.

The other funny thing is that Freud wasn't even completely wrong. He did have a few good theories and the overall points have some validity, it's all the crazy stuff like how boys would want to have sex with their mothers that was off. Freud is definitely still studied because his theories are a valid part of history as far as psychology goes and there are points to them that are correct.

Seriously, if someone is going to attack psychology, it's far better to get into things like overmedication, coming up with mental disorders for normal behavior to medicate people, etc. That stuff is definitely wrong and there's plenty of issues with psychology, but there's plenty with mainstream medicine as well.

New to rp and still figuring out all the ins and outs.

Is it generally accepted to use the same journal you use for games for museboxes/psl? or memes? or in more than one game at the same time? As long as it's not a journal based game I mean (Do those even still exist? I think some of my sources might be a little outdated...)
