A panfandom CR and shipping game based on Harvest Moon and Rune Factory.

All at once, light glows through your eyelids and air sucks into your lungs.

Something told you that there was something waiting for you at the bottom of the pond, so you came to it.

You saw something shining at what must have been the bottom, and you reached in for it.

It wasn't until it was too late that you could have possibly known how deep it seems it actually is.

Now, after who-knows-how-long of being pressed and borne down by darkening blue water with a little silver chain clutched in your fingers, a current has caught you, pulled you free, and set you at the top of a waterfall.

In a moment, you splash down into water again. But this time, in only minutes, you float to a surface.

Shake the water out of your eyes. You'll find yourself in a little cove. Grass and flowers grow in tufts along the stream flowing out of the mouth before you. In the distance is an ocean. Behind you, three thin waterfalls pour from three openings in the cave ceiling. Behind them, set into a shelf in the wall, is a statue of a woman with soft eyes, long loops and tendrils of hair, an airy dress.

The Harvest Goddess welcomes you to Goddess Grotto - but she suggests you climb out, dry yourself off, and begin finding your way around Cape Beryl. The heart-shaped pendant you're wearing - the one on the chain that you were holding, now fastened around your neck - is a present from her, but that treasure for you at the bottom of the pond is still out there for you to find.

Goddess Grotto RP is a panfandom "jamjar"-style friendship- and romance-oriented game based on the Harvest Moon and Rune Factory video games. Its attitude is low-tension and slice-of-life by default, but with a plot to be advanced by character participation and regular events, including village festivals! In between, there is plenty for characters to do - explore the woods and caves, start a business, make an agreement with the Harvest Sprites for some land to farm in the Harvest Goddess's honor. All are encouraged to make friends - that Heart Pendant each character is equipped with changes color to reflect their feelings for whoever they have on the mind, and certain colors can be used to find unexpected rewards!

OU, AU, and non-fandom original characters are all welcome.

Nonhumanoid characters are humanized and special powers are removed on arrival, but can be regained!

I've been tossing around some ideas for a while now and want to see what people think. As a disclaimer, some of the concept involves timed cycles, which aren't set in stone, so 1 week or 1 day or 1 month are just conceptual values to be fine tuned later!

Characters arrive in a port city via boat, where a guide gives them a map and a key to their apartment, but nothing else. There would be a network, but it would be up to characters to supply their own devices. The city isn't small (think downtown Portland or Seattle) but it's almost empty, no people in the streets, no tourists, just PCs and NPC shopkeepers.

Resources like food and clothes are "free", with a catch that stock won't be refilled like it would in the real world. For example, in a real grocery store, produce is regularly rotated out for freshness. Here, it would be placed out on Sunday and simply left there for a week before the spoiled food was removed/restrocked. Obviously this wouldn't apply as much to nonperishables, which might be on a different timer, so canned vegetables might only get restocked once a month. Things like electronics would be even less frequently stocked. To make this easy for players to manage, a calendar could be set up with a few major categories and stock levels projected out for a month or two at a time.

Events would include elements of light horror (nothing too gorey or violent, more spooky/creepy/inconvenient), adventure, suspense, and sci-fi, with a dystopian overtone. I'm not interested in doing typical jamjar fare crack events like bodyswaps or sexswaps, though there might be a few simple events like that to start off and get people comfortable before introducing more involved events. There could be something silly for special occasions as well, like Halloween or Christmas, or as a cool down after particularly intense events.

Player-run events would be highly encouraged with a formal way of requesting/scheduling events so that they don't overlap or get derailed by game plot. Metaplot would ideally last for a year and a half to two years (assuming everything went well) with potential to expand to something new after that.

Standard fare apps. Link a history or write one. Write a personality. Recent past threads preferred for samples, but you can write from scratch if you really want to. Personally I find threads where you're actually playing to be more indicative of ability, but obviously you won't have threads if it's a new character for you.

I'm not sure about activity requirements yet. I wanted to try something I haven't personally seen before with activity, which is activity checks that run every 2 months, but there are very few exceptions. No strikes, no hiatus exemptions, unless you have a really good reason. I don't like exceptions because it seems like people abuse them more often than not, but I worry that getting rid of them and substituting a longer activity period would cause people to sit on their butts for six or seven weeks then just make a bunch of pointless posts/logs/threads.

Annnnd that got longer than I thought it would. I've tossed these ideas around with some friends, but outside input would be nice.

I play a fair few characters - Masamune, Motochika, Mitsunari and Yukimura - so there's a whole range of options to choose from and I ship a whole bunch of things too so I'm sure we can work something out.

so I have one of those "character's mentioned briefly in canon" and while they're technically canon, I see them as a fandom OC and wouldn't expect anyone else to do anything different.

People I rp with seem to dig the character, so I sorta wanna bounce her off some of her canonmates not played by people I rp with but I also don't wanna pull that "Surprise canon character, here deal with your pretty much an OC relative." stuff on them if they don't want it. I just don't wanna put them in that corner.

I was considering putting up something that is like "Here's their history relevant to the canon, and here's an AU with no ties to the canon if you're more comfortable with that." and linking to both.

I would probably only really do top level comments for her as well. I dunno, does that seem like a good idea?

My two best RP partners, whom I love dearly, are both into a fandom and they've sort of gotten me into it too. I'm playing a castmate that they're both thrilled to have and all is supposed to be rainbows and puppies. Except I'm just not into it as much as they are - just not as invested in the fandom, or in my character. I like it, sure, just... not enough to really be involved. A lot of the time I don't even enjoy writing my guy even when it's off those two with whom I've always had a wonderful time before. It feels like I'm faking it, and I am getting to be tired as fuck both of the whole thing and of always worrying that they'll figure out how little I actually enjoy what we do. I know dropping my character will be a huge disappointment to them, and that if I play from the canons I care to play from, I'll drop fast in their priority list...

It's stupid, and selfish, and I feel ridiculous even ranting about it here rather than using my words with those two people whom I trust and adore, but I just can't help but feel excluded.

I'm in the exact same situation right now. It really blows, doesn't it? Do what I say not what I do and go talk to them. Make up an excuse about how you're getting busy with school/work/whatever and you're starting to get burnt out on the character if you have to. I'm not saying lying should be your first goal, and you should definitely be honest if you can, but if you have to, using that has helped me in the past.

I'm sorry if this should belong in app this please/enable me; I thought it was kind of toeing the line so I decided to put it in the post proper instead.

I'm interested in playing a character from a movie that has a big, character-changing twist at the end. However, I'm not really a fan of the twist, and I found the character a lot more interesting before the truth about her was revealed. Are there any games out there that would accept a version of the character sans twist, apped as an AU? The characterization would essentially be the same and the character would be from the exact same world and setting, but their backstory and maybe a few things in regards to motive would be completely rehauled in a way that's kind of different from most AU characters that I've seen (which is why this admittedly might be a concept better-suited for museboxes and the like). If knowing details will help, the canon is a kind of shitty horror film called Orphan. The audience spends most of the movie thinking the main character is a disturbed, psychotic child, but at the end, it's revealed that (SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY CARES TO AVOID THEM?) she's actually an adult serial killer who just poses as a child. I'd want to play her as a real kid, because screwed-up kids are fascinating as fuck and lend a very dynamic to play than screwed-up adults.

On the off-chance that anyone has any game suggestions, my only requests are no sex games, and nothing with a set end date (since I don't know when I'd actually app).

I miss the days of RP where most of the player interactions happened on OOC comms and in game chats, and you weren't pressured to have a plurk and stay in touch with your gamemates all the time.

It makes me want to join a game and say I have no plurk or personal journal and the only way to contact me is through PM, just to get rid of that pressure.

Game chats are extremely difficult to schedule for anything but the tiniest of games... if a few players work evening shifts or live in a different timezone than the majority of the game, they probably won't get to participate. And unless the mod is really good, having twenty people talking at once in a chat room is going to be a chaotic mess. But I like OOC comms (and other non-social plotting methods, such as using a communal google doc to organize a climatic scene). Plurk has a lot of drawbacks just as a social networking platform, so it's not particularly well suited to use for rp discussions... except maybe for casual scene setups between friends. With Plurk, staying in touch with gamemates is "all or nothing."

I'm planning to start a game of my own soon, but I don't use Plurk. I'm going to see if I can manage the game with just an OOC comm, a mod Plurk for notifications/mod contact only, and small group IM chats as needed. If players want to plot amongst themselves on Plurk, that's great, but I still want them to contribute to OOC comm plotting threads.
