Games with no / temporary humanization

Hello! I'm tentatively shopping for a game for Temeraire (from Temeraire). However, Temeraire is a 20 ton dragon. I'm looking for a game that will, in one way or another, let him keep being a dragon. In no particular order, I'm open to games that have:

- Humanization, but the ability to regain his dragon form later
- Size scaling; the ability to regain his full size is desired but optional
- The ability to freely change between human and dragon form (either upon apping or as a regain later)
- Keeping his dragon form but requiring an avatar to navigate certain spaces
- No humanization or size scaling at all

Basically, the only thing I'm not interested is a game where he's required to assume a humanoid form at all times!

dunno how many of you are familiar with the comic series Fables from Vertigo/DC comics, but i was thinking about trying to make a game based off it. i've already got some stuff outlined in some really rough notes i'm planning on refining.

the cliff notes version of fables for those unfamiliar:
fairy tale characters (fables) were forced out of their home world by someone called the Advesary. they hide in communities among normal humans and have different laws, traditions, etc among their communities. they have to deal with things like hiding themselves from regular humans (mundanes / mundies), fueds/disputes/problems among the fables community, and then of course agents acting on behalf of the advesary and adversary themselves coming after them.

basic idea:
characters are pulled into fable town where they've been recruited to help fight against agents of the advesary and other mysterious forces so they can return home. there'd be an overarching plot moving towards different conflicts and obstacles, smaller side plots along the way that players can complete to help 'steer' the direction of the story. the ultimate goal being help the fables community return home and once they're back in their homelands and fables can fully use their power, get access to lost or stolen artifacts/items, etc, they would be able to return characters to their homeworlds.

npcs:
would be different fables in different roles. some of them might resemble those seen in the actual comic series while others would have different roles or personalities. they'd pop in and out for different things,contribute to different parts of the plot based on how characters handle different plots and events, and be responsible for running certain locations, businesses, and services.


different things characters will be able to do:
- some slice of life things that would include helping the different fables in day to day life by running errands, helping with different things as basic as feeding the non-human fables up at the farm, building up the community, or just dealing with the chaos that comes with living in a community filled with fables.

- training for characters who aren't combat trained to include basic hand to hand stuff, some more niche fighting styles, using different powerful weapons or spells, etc.

- plot related events that center on confronting or being confronted by different threats regardless of who they come from

- battle preparations for when things eventually come out

- some different 'missions' characters can undertake outside the fabled communities to get different items or intel, find or stop foes, find fables who are in trouble, infiltrating the homeland, etc.

- a mix of celebratory, recreation, or special events to celebrate things like the formation of different fabled communnities, birthday or annivesary events relating to fables, victory celebrations, etc.

- other stuff as well that isn't immediately jumping out at me to mention as i type this, haha


other notes:
- knowledge of the fables series would not be required! there will be terminology and elements taken from the series but it will all be outlined accordingly so players will have everything they need to know readily available and don't need to do any extra research or anything

- things are going to get dark. they'll get violent. characters are going to get hurt (physically/emotionally/mentally). they'll get hit with spells and potions and other magical abilities they're going to be vulnerable to regardless of their powers. there will be blood, death, and violence. there's going to be drama and conflict. there'll also be some light-hearted things to break up heavier plots. characters are expected to fight and/or contribute to the efforts of the community.

- some locations will be directly taken from the comics while some might be completely new or altered versions of what was seen in the series. there'd also be some inspriation taken from actual fairy tales and legends, series like once upon a time, shrek (yeah, i said shrek), and different fairy tale based media for characters, events, and locations as well

- there will be some events or plot elements that are closely related to the comics or taken directly from them, so players who are familiar with fables will absolutely see similarities. i'll do my best to try and add some twists to it so it isn't so overtly predictable what will happen.

- power nerfing would be a thing but only from a 'we can't have you destroying our communities' perspective as well as other reasons that'll relate to The Plot.

- there will be a network. i'm just trying to figuring out some aspects of it. there will be times where the network is inaccessible or locations where the network is interrupted because ~magic~ and ~reasons~.

- there would be a 'primary' community where they operate out of but characters will be able to travel to different parts of the world, other fairy tale locations, and the homelands for different missions and events. fables from other communities will also come to the primary location as part of missions and plots.

- characters from fables or different fairy tale themed/adjacent canons would be absolutely welcome. they will be treated as fables but they will not be treated as the fable the communities know. for example: rapunzel from the tangled movie would be acknowledged as being a fable named rapunzel, but the rapunzel of the fabled community would be the one the fables know as the 'true' rapunzel and her story would be the one they know and is recognized in that human world and the homelands. for fables characters, though, there'll be a dynamic in place to ensure they won't have any advantages or be able to predict different outcomes.

- there'll be a reward system in place where characters can complete tasks and use activity points to be able to purchase different things like magical weapons, spells of all sorts, their own gear and what not, and various other things.

- characters will be able to take up different jobs with fabled groups such as magic users being able to assist the witches, combat trained individuals can help mentor and train people in combat classes, farmers or gardeners can help tend to the farm and other things, cops can join the sherriff's office, etc.

- there will be some differences in how characters are treated specifically relating to characters who appear 'non-human'. these differences will only be pointed out/used in the sense of fables will express concern over their inability to blend in with the mundies. non-human characters will also have the option to purchase glamors but this comes with a cost that players opting to do this will be required to play out to use.

- characters will also be brought in under the amnesty, meaning they won't be held accountable for any crimes, deeds, or conflicts from before their arrival and the fables would expect characters to respect and abide by this. meaning: red hood trying to kill the joker because the joker was responsible for his death would be frowned upon and grounds for arrest under the terms of the amnesty. sorry red hood.


that's everything i got for now. is this something people would be interested in and if so, what questions do you have? what would be some things you'd like to see in it? any thoughts or feedback is appreciated!

I'm looking for cross-canon play for this girl, Satoko, from the book, Spring Snow, the first volume of Yukio Mishima's, Sea of Fertility series. The quick summary of her character is, basically, that she's the 20 to 22-year-old daughter of a Japanese aristocrat, whose family has fallen on hard times in the early Taisho era, so she becomes engaged to a prince that she doesn't want to marry, seeing as she's in love with someone else. As a person, she is spirited, capricious and most notoriously, sports a rather terrible taste in men which is the plot of the entire book, spoiler.

I would prefer to avoid modern AU'ing her, so characters from historical canons/settings would be preferable, or characters AU'd into such, both canon and OCs, all mediums. I'm willing to play her in various periods (prior to WWII), Western or Japanese, so no problem if your character isn't from 1912 Japan, I can find a way to insert her in whatever works for your character!

Fantasy or steampunk characters from settings that are historical-adjacent are also much welcome! I'm canon blind to almost everything, but with a little OOC talking, I should be able to think of something workable.

In terms of the kind of play I like, some of my favourite things in no particular order are:

- anachronistic texting/epistolary threads
- f/m or f/f shipping (though I prefer to keep things faded to black)
- slice of life stuff and emotional growth over heavy action
- arranged marriage, insomnia, first meetings, question for a question, soulmates...
- brackets over prose
- OOC interaction, can do both plurk and discord

If anyone should be interested, my preferences can be found here, while I have an open post here. Backtagging will be a necessity, as I'm in an awkward timezone from most people.

say hypothetically someone was interested in potentially getting into heaven official's blessing... where on earth do you start with that. what all are the different adaptations and their relation to one another. from a roleplay perspective, how much of the canon would one be looking to digest to feel like they're 'ready'

Say you are playing against a character from a canon with a culture such that gender/pronouns are not generally assumed by a person's appearance but from a digital identifier attached to their person that they can choose to share or conceal. When this character tags yours, would you prefer that the tag:

a) Reflect the character's canonical understanding of gender, AKA, the narration will refer to your character with the ambiguous they/them until the character is informed otherwise.

or

b) Handwave away any ambiguity and simply refer to your character with the correct pronouns/gender.

or

c) Do something else (feel free to elaborate).

On one hand, I want to keep things IC for my character, but I also know gender can be a sensitive topic and don't want to make any of my thread partners feel uncomfortable if my tags are misgendering their character, even if just to reflect the world-building of my character's canon.

I (cislesbian) have a friend (bi cismale) who is very dear to me, but I have trouble playing off of his female characters. My friend, we can call him Bob, plays both a variety of male and female characters. While Bob is never weird about his female characters, they always end up feeling more flat or lacking in a certain nuance of understanding. The threads feel dull, shallow, and bereft of the same dynamism that he manages to provide when playing off his male characters.

I keep giving them a shot because I keep hoping that maybe it's just that he's picking a character type (personality wise) that's outside his wheelhouse, but time and time again that doesn't seem to be the case. It's been going on for a few years now and I'm to the point where I almost want to say, "Sorry I'm not interested in playing off any of your female characters." Now Bob has been dropping a bunch of new female characters on memes and TDMs inviting you frequently to play with him/help him drum up samples. In this same predicament would you...

A. Tell Bob you're not interested without explaining any deeper because critique has not been asked for/avenues for unprompted critique are not available

B. Give Bob a full critique when expressing your disinterest with the hopes he'll take it to heart and maybe improve his writing or keep to characters he's got a better handle on

C. Keep letting Bob shoot his shot and just say things didn't work out after giving him his 1000th try

pity tags suck for everyone involved. you don't want to tag him, so don't tag him. he probably isn't going to take it well if you tell him his writing sucks because he can't handle female characters. so take the route that's less painful for everyone and just let someone else tag him and give him samples.

bakerstreet is the place to start! It's got examples of simplistic, face-to-face interactions in what's often referred to as the "commentspam" or "ecats" style; more complex scenes heavier on action and introspection; and threads set up like characters texting eachother.

Don't be afraid to specify your own preferences when you're ready to get into things! There are more people willing to thread more traditional prose (without brackets, etc) than you might think, for example.
