rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

I miss connecting with my psl partners ooc. I understand why most people prefer to keep ooc chatter to a minimum, but one of my favorite things about having a psl was gushing over our characters and threads. Always helped me to keep my enthusiasm up. Just a little lonely gushing by myself lol

how do you know they don't wanna gush?

Mostly worried about being off putting. With my current psl, it's been a couple days since their last tag and I don't want to come off like I'm bothering them to tag or anything.

da, and im someone who defaults to no ooc chatter but

1. i wouldn't be put off by you reaching out to me as long as you weren't weird and just made it all about the next tag and ive given people my disc/plurk more than once

and

2. when im in your situation i like to throw in something not related to the thread/tag/fandom, like a very good picture of a dog, just for funsies and to hopefully help emphasize that im not just beating the tag monkey to try to get it to dance for me

i always want to gush too but i hold myself back in case it puts my partner off lol.

A reason why I enjoy RP is getting to know people. I message the players who I don't talk to often with "OMG I can't believe they just said that! This is great."

All you can do is try it and see how it goes. I love it when players gush over their threads with me.

i heavily dislike gushing and minimize ooc contact, but i'd never be put off by a question if i want to engage in that way. feel free to shoot your shot, anon. as long as you take their potential decline with grace, you should be fine. and who knows, maybe they match your vibe and would love to gush with you! you can't know til you ask.

+1, I don't like gushing but I'm happy to be available for OOC stuff as long as my boundaries are respected (generally a combo of "sorry, only online for work and can't chat right now" and "thanks for your enthusiasm, I like our thread too, but I prefer to focus on writing tags over talking about them").

I've had people come in really hot and then immediately assume I hated them because I didn't match that energy, and dropped the thread we were boomeranging. it sucks to lose RP I really love just because I'm not very expressive. so please hit up your partners but don't let that take away from the thread you're doing together!

+1 gushing too much feels performative and exhausting to me, even if i do sincerely truly enjoy the thread and i'm screaming in my own head about it. i may not routinely express that more with ooc gushing other than when it's some exemplary scene developments or dialogs.

if anything i'm more the type to draw silly fanart of our characters/scenes, but in the same vein i worry that's too "off-putting" as well unless i get to know my rp partner very well first. i'm a slow burn person and unfortunately i've also been burned for not matching someone else's high energy, or worse they get insecure when i don't express as much as they do (which will become a self-fulfilling prophecy)

i do think we should be a lot more open to getting to know each other oocly, in general! i just hope even if the ooc energy/vibes don't match that it won't be taken personally
