Hi! I'm trying to get a specific look with a profile table thing. It's a modified version of https://asylums.insanejournal.com/supersuits/43537.html. I've got the shape of it down to what I want, but is there a way to throw a border around the entire table? Like, if I want the entire thing outlined, is that possible in DW coding?

I'm also trying to slap an image over the top center that overlaps the various 'borders' without deforming/separating them. I don't know if that can be managed, though.

I've talked about this on plurk but it's been a while: a sci fi memory loss setting on a postapocalyptic earth. With a mostly light, absurd tone.

Your character wakes up in a tank of goo with little fish nibbling their toes and a colorful squid alien talking at them. "Please remain calm! You are in no danger. My name is Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies, and my colleagues and I have just brought you out of a feral state. Do not be afraid of the cutis fish!" only she's talking in a series of clicks and whistles while waving her tentacles at first, because she forgot to turn the translator on ('forgot'. Dance thinks it's funny.)

The squid aliens are called the Krakau. They stopped by Earth a century ago to invite humans into their multispecies alliance, only for humans to eat their diplomats. See, humanity had recently devolved into roving bands of nearly unkillable "fast zombie"like animals with minimal intelligence. The Krakau considered just leaving but realized that humans could be useful in the war against the omnicidal insectoid Prodryans, so started to uplift them. "Cured" humans may not be quite as intelligent as their ancestors, but they retain their incredible toughness and can take commands!

Most ferals captured for this purpose were born feral to feral parents but lately, some have been found wearing ragged scraps of clothing, and (after curing) retaining some memory of a sapient existence. These would be the PCs. Player characters, waking up in those goo tanks, mostly have vague recollections of wandering cold and hungry like any cured human, but they also have a confusing dreamlike recollection of life as an actual person. The Krakau believe the PCs are from some hidden enclave of intelligent humans that has only succumbed in the past year or so. Humans and... some others? huh.

for people who play characters who narrate their own stories: do you use first or third? would people find it odd to see first person prose used in brackets, even if it's thematically appropriate to the character?

time loop

a woman recently freed from a 20+ year time loop has to readjust to normal life and time, and reckon with the choices she made while in the time loop. before the loop, she was quiet, weak-willed, and being forced into an arranged marriage by her domineering family. but, during the loop, she grew a spine, became resourceful, and told her family off (about three thousand times lol). i'm also interested in playing her while in the time loop (i plan to write up at least a gist of what happened and how she got out) or loool getting stuck in another time loop with your character (something along the lines of edge of tomorrow)

i have yet to settle on a time period but she will be a historical character (most likely early 20th century; 1930s at the latest).

Would it seem weird and PA if I told someone that my character is unlikely to speak to their character again because last time they did (via network), all their cr chimed in and made a big fuss out of it? (My character was rude to theirs.)

OOC-ly I'm fine with the threadjacking and negative cr, it made for some fun drama and ic arguments to write out, but IC-ly my character is an asshole who doesn't like drama, so the end result of this kerfuffle is that he's going to cold shoulder avoid everyone involved going forward... and I feel like that's a pretty normal IC choice after getting brigaded on Facebook or whatever. But now the other player is angling for more CR and I kind of want to be like uh... you do understand what happened last time they talked tanked that possibility? It's going to take some plotting and development before my guy will speak to yours again.

i'm not sure i completely get what you mean by that (did other characters dogpile yours too or is it just an argument between yours and the other player's?) but it depends on how open you are on continuing cr. if you think that it will take more effort, you can let the other player know your thoughts. since it's not like you're saying absolute no, the other player might want to know how they can have cr. you can then just discuss how to go about it.

Not sure if this would be more appropriate under "Character Advice" since it's not for a specific character per se but...

Anons who play characters from obscure canons: how do you make yourself/the character more appealing to write with? I always get a ton of tags on my meme TLs for more/semi-popular canons but when I try my hand at someone obscure I like a lot the well runs dry. I'm p sure it's moreso to do with people tagging characters they recognize but as someone who has gotten into a lot of canons through RPing on here.... honestly I want to try to be that/just be more appealing overall.

Obscure characters need to do a lot more tagging out, and/or need to mention what they'll mesh with in their top-level comments:

[Character is a barista in an urban fantasy setting who's secretly a witch. Looking for werewolf/vampire/other urban fantasy characters, or normal people who are ignorant to her secret but might need a magical pick-me-up!]

[Character is a rogue cyborg owned by an insurance company, intended to provide security to clients. Perhaps it's acting as your character's bodyguard? Meshes well with other sci-fi canons.]

[Character is a magical girl from a post-apocalyptic dystopia city. I'd love to play off other magical girls or general anime protagonists.]

hmmm, anons. how do you handle it when a canon is bad at the whole showing vs telling thing, and how a character is depicted as acting doesn't mesh with what you're told the character should read as?

like, idk, as a random example say character a is introduced to you by character b saying they're haughty and self-centered. and that's generally agreed on by the characters in canon that interact with character a, like yup they sure are haughty and self-centered. except every time we see character a say or do anything they might only just come off as a little quiet or distant at worst, and they donate to the save the puppies fund very obviously; certainly not bad enough to be regarded universally as 'yeah that guy sucks, totally full of it.' maybe one or two characters might not mesh, personalitywise, but if it's the majority of them then canon clearly wants us to think a certain way about that character.

in rp, do you:

a) portray them as they are portrayed as speaking and behaving in canon, and if in rp other characters don't end up having the same general opinion/impressions of them as the other characters in canon then handwave it away internally if it ever comes up with a 'huh, weird, but maybe the other characters in canon x just had a lot of biases that the characters in [rp] don't have'?

b) introduce some minor behaviors and quirks to nudge them toward whatever canon says they're supposed to read as, or retool their psychology to make them take more actions that would read that way or something. tweak the portrayal of them a bit to make the tell match the show?

c) realize that you might in fact just be the haughty and self-centered bitch with no lick of self awareness, and reevaluate your existence?

d) some other option?

list out scenarios you'd love to play, no matter how corny or cliché! doesn't have to be character, kink, or canon specific! don't be afraid to reach out to each other to make those rp dreams come true ~

1) BFF shenanigans. The type of close friendship where both friends have each other's back, but also enable each other to do stupid nonsense and/or have no qualms about getting their friend in trouble because they are confident in the friend's ability to handle the trouble. The translated Spy Room novels describe Lily and Sybilla's relationship as "two dumbass peas in a dumbass pod" and that pretty much sums up what I'm into for this here. I'm not really looking for shipping in this scenario (using the same Lily+Sybilla example, Sybilla actually makes an effort to help Lily and their teammate out after the teammate confesses to Lily); it's harder to thread BFFs in RP unless the other player also doesn't ship the pair romantically.

2) Speaking of shipping: the post-getting-together part is something I don't get to thread much, unless it's an assumed relationship or canon pairing. Where are my dates, my doting spouses, my longterm partners, my sleepy morning cuddles, sharing mealtimes under one roof... I guess this works better as a PSL or in memes if skipping past the actual getting together. I have a treasured PSL where the thread partner and I have written the characters at different stages in their relationship, knowing (as players) they were going to be endgame.

3) Contrasts between the parties in a close relationship. Could be friendship or romantic (or friends to lovers I guess? I eat that up with a spoon). Especially if it subverts expectations or stereotypes, like the tall imposing bf who turns into an uncool clingy baby around his sweetheart, the older and seemingly more put-together friend needing their grouchy aloof younger friend to calm them down from a rage, that sort of thing.
