This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

i just feel so defeated sometimes. one choice years ago to disengage from someone still has a negative impact on my rp life today. it makes me scared to set boundaries with anyone else.

I think I'm getting tired of those 'magic effect makes your character feel a different way' events, like "oops you ate the chocolate that makes you aggressive!" or "you picked the flower that causes you to be happy all the time!". I get why they're fun sometimes because they push characters out of their comfort zones, but they're hard to do a lot of because...I'm playing my character because I like their personality. I don't want to change it! It just feels weird and out of character, especially when its a TDM prompt or a game where you don't have a lot of CR yet. IDK, maybe it's a skill issue?

everyone's been busy (including me, tbh) so on the one hand i'm down to just chill and do something else for a little while.

on the other hand, the really annoying part of my brain is doing the thing. you know the one. the bit where it's talking about your insecurities and how no one's tagging me back because my tags are boring and the only reason people tag me in game is because of obligation etc.

idk man, i don't remember having this problem back before i took my sabbatical from the hobby. i guess it's because the last time i had a character i wanted to write this badly, it was back when dwrp was super active and now that it's died down i want a fix but can't get a hit at all. feels bad.

it seem like memes are in an extra strength moon phase of "canon but barely" self-inserts and boring malleable protag m/f cockhops to anyone else lately? like. for real tho', i know this has always been a thing and will always be a thing and live your best life, but i've been feeling myself bringing out multiple characters and i can't seem to turn around without the same bad model faces all wanting to play the same exact shit these days. jonesing for some variety!!!

having a feelsbad moment seeing players who ghosted their threads with me but are using that same character to actively tag/plot with my castmates whose characters have similar-ish vibes to mine. :( i am always happy that my castmates are welcomed but this pattern is making me anxious that it's me either oocly or icly.

a couple of months ago I had a good couple of threads with someone on bakerstreet. they've since disappeared and I hope it's just life being life! when they reappeared, I hope they're still up for what we were planning.

In my current game, I've had great CR but a few people I've threaded with had dropped our threads recently, which isn't a big deal at all, life happens! It's just when they dropped the threads we were doing but then continued to tag other threads, or tag into new stuff (I only knew this because they do tag plurks), it was a bit of a "feels bad." I've tried to brush it off, it's just they had specifically come to me to plot and say they wanted to do things, rather than me seeking them out, so if they dropped our stuff, it makes me wonder if maybe they didn't like my writing or felt we didn't vibe.

All of that is totally okay, but since they haven't reached out to plot again, I am left to wonder in the unknown, and then I don't know if I should just take that as a tacit sign not to reach out to them to plot since they haven't come to me since. I know this is nothing new in the sphere of RP, but just kicking up my anxiety extra.

I've been looking forward to applying to this game for a long while, and now that apps are almost open my anxiety has skyrocketed (for RL reasons unrelated to RP). I'm really glad I got my app done before all this, but now even posting the app is difficult. I am trying to be kind and patient with myself, it's just frustrating that this is all hitting right now.

i wish i didn't feel like the only person whose threads are getting dropped in my game. if someone responds to 9 out of 10 tags in their inbox, mine is inevitably the one that doesn't get responded to.

like i get that they just probably didn't mesh with my writing style or portrayal, so i only poked them once and then left them alone to make sure i wasn't being a pushy asshole, but damn. feels bad man

Idk if this is a woe or something more suited to wg but here goes.

Finally playing a popular character, excited to see how others play him! Everyone seems to play him as a cockslobbering uke who wants to hump a character he canonly hates/dislikes and seems to forget he's, possibly, still devoted to his wife. Decide to never look at how others are playing him just so I don't get annoyed by it.

Picked up a character from an old-ish canon that I don't see many people playing from these days. Ended up shipping a rarepair with them. I've been looking around for a month or so now, but I can't find anyone who still plays from it that might want to thread this ship with me.

It's small potatoes, but I'm just feeling super bummed about it.

Sometimes things click with a new rp partner and it is amazing but it quickly becomes clear they're way more creative and to be quite honest, smarter than I could ever hope to be. Inevitably, this ends up with things fizzling out because while I can provide a lot of interesting initial bones to chew on, I can never keep up and they will get bored.

I don't want this to happen again, but I feel it starting.

I really want to block someone I see on some of my mutuals until I’ve moved on more from some stupid and totally avoidable stuff that went down. I don’t want to deal with all of the drama and misunderstandings that would potentially follow if I do. Sometimes I wish my eyes could easily glaze over everything they say.

sometimes i feel completely out of the loop when it comes to the stuff people are playing from these days. i don't have cable or any streaming subscriptions, i go to movies maybe once or twice a year, and i have such a huge backlog of stuff to watch and read i get discouraged from even trying to get into anything new.

it doesn't really stop me from rping much, i still play what i like and tag whoever looks interesting and get enough threads to keep me happy. it just feels like i used to recognize all kinds of canons or be able to name characters by sight, and nowadays i can barely identify anything unless it's super old or so ubiquitous i'd have to be living under a rock to not know it.

I see lots of characters who I would love to tag, who I think would be really interesting to write with even if I don't know the canon, whose kinks and prefs match mine really well, etc.

But I don't think any of the, like, three characters I actually can play are going to excite the other person

I feel bad because they usually aren't getting tagged by other people either, but I also don't want to have the mindset of "well, if nobody else is tagging them, they'll just be glad for my tags"
