Three years between replies. Some day...

They keep saying they're interested. Also that they're "intimidated by my quality" and that they "don't want to give tags that aren't as good". I'd rather have some tags than none, though.

Six months, with me being the one responding. Someone outside of us had apparently been tracking the thread and actually sent me a message saying they were happy I had tagged it back so there was more to follow. I was SO embarrassed!

A little over a year. Unfortunately, they stopped again after two tags, so I'd almost rather they hadn't gotten my hopes up for that PSL continuing at all.

three years because of a comedy of stupid errors. it was actually understandable and the psl continues to grow, because it only happened once for three years, then never nearly so long again.

Not a story about my response time, but I once had a thread going between myself and another rper, it was Lucifer and Sam Winchester. I forget what we were doing--body heat meme? Hilariously???

It was during the time when the apocalypse season was currently airing. Like 10 tags in they ghosted and I forgot all about it until 2020.

After the Nov 5 superhell episode, they tagged me back. No DM, no acknowledgement that any amount of time had passed, but they were sporting a season...8 (I think) Sam icon.

That notification will never not be funny to me.

game reboots?

Would you be willing to consider playing in a game that's an overhauled reboot of an old closed game, or would the fact that it's a reboot be an at-the-door dealbreaker?

Additional context: the game just sputtered out (rather than reaching endgame or exploding into wank) and has been closed for several years now.

For me it's not a clear-cut yes or no, it's going to depend on the situation, prior mod involvement, approval, were they contacted? Is it a wholesale lift or is there a new angle on the idea? Lots of variables involved

If the prior mod team gave approval then sure. Otherwise I wouldn't play in a straight reboot of an older game because it would feel weird to me personally.

Now we've got the context it's a reboot by the original mod team, I wouldn't care, I would treat it the same as a brand new game.

imma be honest, i don't think you'll find a lot of friction. especially since there is clearly permission to be rebooting it (lol).

hell yeah though, more game options to choose from is always a good thing.

i think i'd rather have a spiritual successor than a reboot, if only because a lot of people remember their Good Times in Game X, then get immediately and vocally disappointed when it's not the same experience, like for like. this can especially happen because we're no longer the same people with the same tagging proclivities and the same availability as when we were younger. so a successor (sequel, game in same universe, etc) would give me a nostalgic cradle to revisit without setting up expectations.

if you're treating it as a continuation of the previous version, then it depends how much lore homework i have to catch up on

sincerely i don't understand it. why do people save up a bunch of tag responses and then post them all at once? i see people say they've been working on "tag bombs" for days. why not just post each tag as you finish it?

do you write it habitually, or does it depend on the meme?

(yes i understand i can pm and ask the individual if they haven't written any preferences, but i'm just curious in general)

what's the vibe around here about playing characters portrayed by problematic actors? like ezra miller's the flash or gal gadot's wonder woman, i'm really interested in playing a character like that but i don't want to seem like i'm supporting the shitty stuff the actor's done either.

Meme etiquette question

if you TL a meme and someone tags in with a character you're not interested in or doesn't line up with your prefs (for ex. you're playing a LA and don't want to be tagged by anyone but other LA's and an anime character tags you), what's the best way to handle it?

I don't just wanna completely stay silent and want to say something but I also don't want to be rude and am kind of a dumbass when it comes to this stuff. Can I say something like "Sorry but I'm not interested!" or does that come off too passive aggressive/shitty?

fwiw it has 0 to do with the writer specifically and just boils down to me not being interested in the character/medium. ordinarily I'd just ignore the tag but it feels hella bad + I don't want that person to feel bad if they see me ignoring their tag and responding to others.

I'm thinking of apping to a game, but there's a canonmate (a decently popular character in the RP sphere) who I don't like. No beef with anyone who plays them, I just don't like this character that much, and my character would ICly have reason to treat them with hostility/rivalry. Think, like, rival teams in sports anime where my guy would treat any rival team member kinda rude, which is just to say that avoiding this character isn't necessarily OOC. What's anons' advice for RP etiquette? Would it be fair to tell someone sorry I just don't really want to deepen CR with our sportsball guys?

For the record, the game has no preexisting castmates, but I worry my disliked character could be picked up if a cast formed, so I'm just seeking out people's opinions ahead of time. However, out of curiosity, would your opinion change if there was a preexisting cast, including the disliked character?

How do you get started?

I've been doing PSLs on other platforms and in google docs for about a decade now, but it's been yeaaaars since I did DWRP. I'd like to get back into it and I've got an OC who I think would be a good fit for a game, but I'm feeling pretty out of my depth.

Can you include writing samples for a different character in an application? Or should I only apply using samples for this specific character on Bakerstreet?
