something big going down in clown town

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.

why do people tag like this?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-08 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
sincerely i don't understand it. why do people save up a bunch of tag responses and then post them all at once? i see people say they've been working on "tag bombs" for days. why not just post each tag as you finish it?

because they've bitten off more than they could chew, gotten overwhelmed by the number of tagbacks owed and want to start from a fresh plate where they've cleared out their debt. if they tag back one tag at a time, depending on the speed of their thread partners, there is a risk that they'll get tagged again before they've cleared out - meaning they'll never get to put a dent into what they owe.

i'm sure there are other situations, like people who write out their tags when they have downtime but can't access dw for one reason or another, but since realizing most people who do this tend to be super overextended and only seem to tag back one every week or so, i've just stopped tagging people who only ever seem to reply via tag bombs, and my rp life has been much better for it.

tbf i have to tag bomb often when i first start tagging in my day because i'm a sad european and americans strike hardest during my sleeping hours, so i don't necessarily put tag bombing down as a red flag — as long as it's done somewhat promptly and isn't someone's exclusive way of tagging.

I always refer to a tag bomb as me opening all my tags in tabs and doing all of them...but I send each one when it's done. I didn't know some people waited?

i think what you're speaking of counts as clearing your inbox! i've only ever seen tag bombs refered to as effectively prewriting the replies to all the tags in your inbox and releasing them all at once.

but i might be wrong!

+1 this

I get all my tags back at 3am my time so I start my day clearing everything out in one go, then sometimes we get to do one or two tags when we're both awake and not busy if we're lucky, but usually it's just easier to do everything at once in the hour or two I have free before work

this sub thread feels needlessly judgemental imho, if you don't like this style of tagging don't start tagging with people who do this and everyone will be happy.

I do get the reasons why some do it but the one person I know who does it most will spend weeks saying this, drop the bomb, and then not tag again for two weeks. I wanted to excuse it as tagging as they had time but found out no job, no kids, nothing but holding up threads two weeks at a time and then begging for ac the day before it's due. I just stopped making them a priority and stopped tagging them.

the dopamine boost of checking everything off my to-do list all at once

Because they don’t want to?

Imagine being this judgmental lol

maybe you got lost on your way to wg but i was just asking a question, nonny
your life will be a whole lot less stressful if you stop assuming everyone has bad intentions

says the person coming to rpanons to complain about something that doesn't impact them at all.

da but the tone of your question was pretty judgemental tbh. if that wasn't your intention then idk why you wrote it like that

nah you were being judgmental. your tone wasn't really much better.

Ignore the anons above, they chose to read judgement into it on their own. Perhaps taking it too personally.

what a weird thing to be judgemental about

the same reason people like using checklists, anon: there's a feeling of accomplishment when a task is completely finished. i can move onto something else and not have to worry about having tags hovering over my head for a bit.

granted, i do like finishing tags as they come in, but there are situations where i like to sit on my tags before i post them. for example, when i'm at work, i'm usually multitasking between keeping an eye on my work and doing tags. while it keeps my hands busy in between tasks, it's harder for me to check them over for quality/errors. i keep my tags in a text file, then when i get home, i can look over them over dinner, do any necessary edits, and send them. in more dire cases, if i have a heavy workload over the week and i just want to sleep when i get home, i can accumulate tags over those days, then look at them over the weekend once i've had some sleep.

my ideal is just doing tags and sending them when they're ready, but i'm a busy person and my schedule rarely works out in a way where i can spend focused amounts of time just sitting and tagging for hours the way i used to. this way, i can get my tags done and still have a life.

there are a lot of reasons to do it anon, and my partners are very understanding about my consistency. sometimes it's a sign of a flaky tagger, but in my case, since my tag bombs normally look like someone who has a one tag a day schedule from the outside, it's literally just that with a few delays for irl.

I enjoy dropping a tag bomb now and then because I get to see my friends yell happily on plurk when they find my tag. It’s double the fun.

i do them most times because i live on the other side of the world and want to clear my inbox before bed without getting tagbacks. It makes me feel accomplished, and clears me up for the next day.

i'm surprised people actually do it after days of tags though. i usually only tag bomb what i can finish in a few hours.

Re: why do people tag like this?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-09 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Not for days, but sometimes I have three or four tags in my inbox for the same character and knock them all out at the same time, going back and forth to edit/touch up until I'm content with each one. Sometimes I think of a new hook or something else to include based on the other tags I'm writing.

Also if I get locked up working on one tag but am still in a writing mood I can jump to another tag to work on.

Re: why do people tag like this?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-09 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
because then people will probably tag me back before i finish the tags i owe, and the cycle of me being behind will start again, because either i can't get to the new tags until i catch up on old tags, or i skip older tags, which can lead to forgetting threads or annoying people who are waiting on me. if i empty my inbox in one fell swoop, then i can respond to new tags in a timely manner and get back on track.
