what are some free/cheap ways to keep up with a language after you're done taking classes for it?

-listen to music in the language
-if you have a smart phone, get a good dictionary app for the language
-fine current event websites written in the language
-randomly form sentences in the language (maybe not around other people just in case, can make people uncomfortable not to understand you)
-try forums in the language if that's your thing
-find some blogs of people studying the language, or living in the country the language is spoken. they usually talk cultural stuff too which enhances the learning experience
-watch foreign language a/v media if you can get any, try some without subtitles if possible

What are some tips on writing a decent starter? What are good hooks?

Normally I got for whatever has to make the character react. Standing up on the same table the other character is eating on, suddenly opening his room, being inside his fridge, a sound that is outright difficult to ignore, things like that.

Normal people go about their everyday business and ignoring others until they bump up with another person due to varying circumstances. In these ways of meeting others, come the first impressions, and thus can also come either friendships or great dislikes.

I keep getting the itch to change to dwrp identity despite having absolutely no cause to (no grudgewankers, no wanky history) and being too attached to my characters (mostly obscure/uncommonly played characters and ocs) and their journals to want to discard them all and start again. I feel like I need a new dwrp start but lbr I am not going to get that simply by changing my handle and plurk and pretending to be from somewhere else.

I don't know what I am trying to accomplish by writing this but I just wanted to get it out of my system.

what's making you feel like you need to change? do you need a fresh game? a new circle of friends? maybe try making a new plurk and going in to a brand new game. tag strangers on memes. try some things you've never done before. or are you bored with dw rp completely? maybe you need a new place to rp. we do get pretty samey sometimes.

personally, i changed mine not too long ago. had a fight with someone who holds a grudge forever and is more than happy to paint me as something i'm not. i don't even want to rp in the same games or fandoms as them, i'm just not comfortable with them being able to locate me, watch me, and shit talk me to their heart's content. it's easier for everyone if they think i stopped rping. been good so far!

honestly i think most of my collection is a culmination of me following picture blogs and collecting neat pics from them over a very long period of time, and then combing back over that collection whenever i want to put together something for a certain character

which still isn't very helpful to you probably, but uh otherwise...when tumblr doesn't cut it i'll also go to like, deviantart and such. sure, 70% of it is shit, but typing v general keywords into the search bar can help narrow down different kinds of pics for me too, and sometimes i can unearth nice images from there with a bit of patience

maybe other anons have other pic sites where you can run those kinds of searches. tumblr's kind of unfortunate for trying to find specific kinds of pictures using tags, since running tag searches always brings up a fuckton of other posts entirely unrelated to pics or art too...

struggling to find an un-wanky way to articulate "no players who default to rping bottoms exclusively without even bothering to check character dynamics" for my smut meme preferences.

i actually prefer to play the top in smut scenarios, but there're pairings or situations where i don't see my character assuming that position - but i always seem to get tagged by players who never bother to talk about the dynamic between our characters and who just reply with a starter featuring their character getting topped hard. i guess the easiest answer would be to just stop top-leveling :/

All because they expect everyone else to do the work for them. To come to them, to be their friend when they offer nothing in return, to serve them up threads and plots on a silver platter, to be their fun dispenser. How are people like this even able to stay in this hobby? They get nothing because they give nothing.

when i was 7, i didnt want to play for my inter-school sports team anymore and attempted to stop during half time. it was a casual tournament and i wasn't very good, but it was obviously frustrating for my dad. i just didn't understand quite what i was doing.

my dad got angry, locked me in the car and dug his nails into my arms while i screamed and cried. for the next couple weeks, i had bruises and little cuts on my arms from it. it could have been worse but it wasn't pleasant.

i'm in my 20s now. i've never told anyone and i don't think my dad even remembers. my dad isn't much better nowadays (though it's shifted more to emotional hurt than physical) and i don't think i can ever talk to him about it. it's just bothered me for a while and wanted to say it at least somewhere.
