to those of you who've self-published on amazon: i heard they changed the way they calculate how much you make. how did it change? have you kept at it regardless? how is it going? i'd like to try breaking in but i wonder if there are any alternatives to amazon if the money will be crap.

it pays by how many pages they read now, not just the purchase of the book. frankly i think that's pretty stupid because there's lots of people out there who buy books and don't get around to reading them for awhile or never finish them and, although normally i hate comparisons to traditional publishing, those authors get paid by the sale, not by the read.

that said, amazon is still the best option because nothing else gets nearly this amount of traffic. the only comparable service is nook, which is dying.

I'm trying to download something from a site (100% legit, I know it isn't a scam or a virus) but everytime I've tried, the link times out. I let them know on their FB page, and they got as far as saying everything works for them, and asking me what browser I use, before radio silence...

Some stranger chimed in to say everything works fine on their end, tested in different browsers etc. so I gather it's a problem on my side.

Any suggestions on what's wrong/how I fix this?

Try restarting your computer and powercycling your modem/router first of all. Those two things are always going to be the first steps for any issue.

Also, what browser are you using? Some do work better than others for some sites and if you have problems with one, try another. Like I use Fiefox mostly, but sometimes sites won't work right so I try IE then.

A little bit timid to ask, but...

I haven't rped on DW for over two years due to a lot of life stuff going on. I'd really like to get back into it, but I feel a little lost on where to actually go. It'd be nice to have somewhere to test before I put myself in a game, in case things don't pan out, yet I can't help but notice dear_mun looks dead as anything, and bakerstreet does too.

Do you guys have any suggestions on where someone timidly wading back into the deep blue rp should start?

dear_player is a start. it's basically a replacement dear_mun with actual mods.

and most games have test drives nowadays, so i'd encourage you to give those a shot. there's no obligation to app if you don't feel like it.

There is a character I want to app into a game. It's a fairly popular character, but no one from their cast is currently in the game (Which was why I was looking to app their initially, for the chance to build Cross Canon CR without the immediate distraction of Canon CR)

However, someone else managed to reserve the character before I did.

The game does allow challenge reserves and I want to do it but I'm nervous that since the other person reserved initially I will look like a massive jerk by trying to challenge their reserve.

This character is one of a very small muselist I have, and my strongest voice for a character. As far as I can tell, neither I nor the person reserving the character, have joined this game previously.

Do I risk looking like an asshole to play the character I want to play at a game that caught my interest, or do I throw in the towel to the person who beat me to it and keep looking for a game? I'm having a hard time finding one my character isn't already at that still looks fun and interesting...

Please help me, anons. I know I can play my character well, and I want the chance to prove it, but I don't want to piss someone off and get into a game just for people to not play with me because I dared submit a reserve challenge.

What do I do?

If you want it badly enough do it. If you don't want it too much then do something else. If I lose a challenge to someone and they play well and are a decent human being I'd be okay with this. If I lost a challenge to someone who handflapped their way into a melodramatic anxious mess convinced that everyone loathes them and dropped the game after three weeks I'd be kind of pissed.

for a while i kept the areas i picked constantly moisturized so i couldn't get hold of any dry or torn skin
