I'm bad at this

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

struggling to find an un-wanky way to articulate "no players who default to rping bottoms exclusively without even bothering to check character dynamics" for my smut meme preferences.

i actually prefer to play the top in smut scenarios, but there're pairings or situations where i don't see my character assuming that position - but i always seem to get tagged by players who never bother to talk about the dynamic between our characters and who just reply with a starter featuring their character getting topped hard. i guess the easiest answer would be to just stop top-leveling :/

Tagging out might be a way to go for a little while! Or maybe 'let's discuss position dynamics first' or something?

i've put up a note like that before, i'm afraid, and the only kind of discussion that seemed to invite was about how much their character would be topped. no ifs or maybes about it.

i guess part of the problem is that i play characters most people stereotype as super-toppy.

I am way more comfortable playing top too and I sometimes make chars who maybe would be bottom top for that reason

In the end it's kind of dumb to judge anyway because real life sex doesn't have exclusive tops or bottoms

i'm getting tired of the "real sex isn't like this!!" argument. strict bottoms and strict tops do exist in real life.

not even close to the degree they do in rp

this is just seme/uke bullshit given shiny new names

(Anonymous) 2015-11-02 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
maybe not, and some people definitely take the labels way too far, or hear them and assume that someone is referencing a whole personality and relationship dynamic instead of a (relatively limited) set of preferences. but that doesn't make "no one in real life does that!!" a valid argument.

my problem with the whole thing is that people base whether their character is a top or a bottom on tired seme/uke (and dom/sub) stereotypes. that's the part that isn't like real life.

Just keep using notes, I suppose, and pray. But I can feel ya. I usually play bottom characters, however, I am acutely aware of the fact that they wouldn't be in certain situations and tend to ask when I can/know/don't know a series.
