Was there ever a gift-giving meme on bakerstreet where you couldn’t leave a blank top-level? Instead, your top-level comment had to have a picture (or link to a picture) of a gift. Characters commenting to the top-level would choose whether they were receiving the gift from the top-level character or giving it to them.

I swear I remember this meme, but I don’t know if it was ever on bakerstreet. Maybe it was on some other comm.

my character is the queen of a major empire-ish nation that is trying to maintain a strained peace with its neighboring countries while at the same time, the politics are clearly a wish to expand and conquer more territory. they are constantly threatening war on one particular country and the situation is getting heated.

either 1) the country getting threatened offers a princess in marriage to the queen to ensure the conflict doesn't get out of hand and forge some kind of alliance, the queen agrees and it's a typical arranged marriage set-up with getting to know each other, realising they have more in common than what meets the eye, falling in love afterwards, etc.

or 2) the country getting threatened inevitably is taken over by military force and a princess is taken as spoils of war/tribute back to the capital where she serves the queen as a kind of handmaiden, though the queen eventually finds herself falling in love with her and their relationship develops from there.

either option is good for me, but i am offering to play the queen (i already have an oc ready for this, la pb) and won't play smut. i prefer the princess in either scenario to be 20+, drawn or la pb is equally fine, i just prefer the character not to be iconless completely, even if you just use your default.

I have some muses a I've played for longer (in the two decades range), but to answer for one that prompts the second question: 14 years. No one on dreamwidth has ever mistaken him for an oc, but I think they might if the source material was a book instead of a visual medium.

Sometimes. Mostly when I'm picking up a brand new muse and I'm still unsure and shaky with their voice.

But even so, everyone has their own interpretation of a character, I try not to look into it too closely.

Props to the small few who add introspection, or better yet, interaction to make it feel more like these characters are playing a word association game with eachother.

longer answer: sometimes it's a fun, ic game to play off one words to see what the association is. which is the literal point of the game. you don't have to add introspection if you don't want to. and when either side feels like it, they can end that part of the 'game' and play with actual rp. it's one of the most low-mental energy memes out there, which is why it's so popular. why are you so salty about a popular meme?

through some c/p and editing, i've discovered what part was glitching my css.

I think mine is a book written in Japanese in 1988, which was translated into English in the 90s but has since gone out of print.

I probably won't count these canons as "obscure" as much as "inaccessible" for English-using audiences (which is most of DWRP). For most of the series I've played from, though, I was the only player or one of a handful of players who had journals for them.

Multimedia projects are even more daunting for the canonblind because a newcomer to the canon or character is often like, "There's a video game? The stage plays aren't an adaptation of the video game? What do you mean the Crunchyroll licensed anime is shit? There are novels? The author does AMAs daily on Xwitter? There are concerts with storylines? omg how do you deal with this" (to paraphrase an actual reaction I have seen) which means it's a fun series to enjoy but difficult to entice people to join in with the enjoyment. The few times I played from a popular-at-the-time canon, I would get a significantly bigger number of people tagging me simply because they recognized the character or canon.

Some of the obscure or inaccessible canons I've had journals for:
1) AU doujin with its own unrelated plot and story of a video game with already nebulous canon
2) movies that were supposedly going to be a trilogy and the third movie was never made, the first 2 movies were in Chinese with dodgy official subtitles
3) the multimedia project that got the omg reaction above
4) alternate history stage play series set from the 1500s-1940s, Japanese only
