something big going down in clown town

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.

what a weird thing to be judgemental about

the same reason people like using checklists, anon: there's a feeling of accomplishment when a task is completely finished. i can move onto something else and not have to worry about having tags hovering over my head for a bit.

granted, i do like finishing tags as they come in, but there are situations where i like to sit on my tags before i post them. for example, when i'm at work, i'm usually multitasking between keeping an eye on my work and doing tags. while it keeps my hands busy in between tasks, it's harder for me to check them over for quality/errors. i keep my tags in a text file, then when i get home, i can look over them over dinner, do any necessary edits, and send them. in more dire cases, if i have a heavy workload over the week and i just want to sleep when i get home, i can accumulate tags over those days, then look at them over the weekend once i've had some sleep.

my ideal is just doing tags and sending them when they're ready, but i'm a busy person and my schedule rarely works out in a way where i can spend focused amounts of time just sitting and tagging for hours the way i used to. this way, i can get my tags done and still have a life.

there are a lot of reasons to do it anon, and my partners are very understanding about my consistency. sometimes it's a sign of a flaky tagger, but in my case, since my tag bombs normally look like someone who has a one tag a day schedule from the outside, it's literally just that with a few delays for irl.

I enjoy dropping a tag bomb now and then because I get to see my friends yell happily on plurk when they find my tag. It’s double the fun.

i do them most times because i live on the other side of the world and want to clear my inbox before bed without getting tagbacks. It makes me feel accomplished, and clears me up for the next day.

i'm surprised people actually do it after days of tags though. i usually only tag bomb what i can finish in a few hours.

Of the 'I sell my art & crafts independently as my own small business' sort of deal, rather than 'I'm an artist for a company or craft things for larger IPs' type of FT employment.

Need any help with your cataloging class?

(Asking because I'm a cataloging librarian and I basically had to teach some people basic cataloging because the class at our university was so poorly taught)

I'll give you the same answer you'll get from everyone who works in insurance- I just kind of stumbled into it. No one sets out to get into insurance, you just get an office job in the industry, blink, and you've been doing it for your whole life.

In my case, I've been in and out of the various roles and only got into underwriting, via joining the call centre of an insurer, in the last few years. Turns out I really like it and I'm pretty good at it, so I'm hoping to stick with this role from now on.

It's volunteer work, which means I get a fairly flexible schedule! Right now I work on the school circuit at a college rather than something like a hospital or hospice.

But the night before an assignment, I go through my job-duffle-bag to make sure I have everything in place. Make sure I have all of the following:
+a notebook for writing up anything unusual, concerning, or noteworthy
+a ball for the dog, along with cups for his shuffle trick
+a nap pad for the dog so he can rest or reset on his spot as needed
+a clip on bag filled to the brim with treats
+a collapsable water bowl and filled water bottle
+two different leashes, one short and one medium in length
+a brush
+a towel, because everyone needs a towel and it is so very useful

The day of the assignment I do a quick once over to make sure the bag is stocked, then I bring the dog over to do a check on him. I make sure there's nothing bugging him physically, there's no burrs or stickers in his fur, he has a clean face and... At risk of oversharing, a clean butt. He also gets a quick brush to get any tangles out of his fur. Then he gets his work bandana put on him, and at this point he's pretty well hyped to get in the car and is doing his happy hops.

Then we drive to the location, trying to leave at least 30 mins early so we aren't rushed for travel or finding a parking spot. We arrive, get his leash on, and either check in at the school desk or check in at the meeting spot. (I also use a mobile phone app to help log my hours!)

From there we either meet with students individually, or we're in a group "meet and greet" setting. The latter is most common on college campus. At this point I get to start instructing my dog and advocating for him; I'll ask him to do things like sit, or tricks, or go say hello, and if needed I'll do hand targeting with him to get him to the right spot. I also keep an eye on him to make sure he's not stressed or overwhelmed by anything, and that no one is being too rough with the dog.

For the sake of the dog we work about one hour before deciding that's enough stimulation for the day. Then we go home, and the dog takes a very long nap!

Fulfillment. I handle all my own shipping (buying packaging supplies & packaging up orders) and it takes up just a TON of time, brainpower, physical work, and also the bulk of my customer service time (answering questions re: ship times, inventory miscount, sent wrong item and need to pay to ship the correct one out.) I'm actually thinking about whether I can outsource any of this and pay someone idk hourly or something to do 4-6 hours of shipping for me a week but don't know how I would go about actually doing that. :/

I went to school for stage sound design, though honestly any amount of av knowledge will get you far.

My boss and coworker all have different degrees ranging from video production to event management so I'm really the only one with stage / live event AV training. I work more on the local level now so nothing grand production wise outside of a few mics and some live streaming.

I actually wound up not needing a paralegal certificate to get hired at my first paralegal job right out of college, but a colleague of mine at the law firm studied for hers while she was being hired and it took her about a year!

I definitely prefer in-house - when you work for defense firms they make you track all your billable hours and it can become very micromanagey especially when the clients start cracking down on what type of work we can bill for and how much we can bill for it. At least with in-house I've been able to focus on just getting the jobs done without agonizing over whether I'm making some monthly quota. Plus I like being able to do cross-departmental work, you meet a lot of interesting people.

I get why you avoid me, and while I didn't do or say the things you think I did, I get why you think so, and that contacting you to tell you as much would seem like BS as well as overstepping.

I don't know you well enough to hold anything against you, and actually think you seem pretty alright? It's just kind of a shame that things happened when and how they did, especially when you've been told some lies about me with no reason on your part not to believe them.

It sucks, but it is what it is. Hope things are going well for you.
