something big going down in clown town

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.

Fulfillment. I handle all my own shipping (buying packaging supplies & packaging up orders) and it takes up just a TON of time, brainpower, physical work, and also the bulk of my customer service time (answering questions re: ship times, inventory miscount, sent wrong item and need to pay to ship the correct one out.) I'm actually thinking about whether I can outsource any of this and pay someone idk hourly or something to do 4-6 hours of shipping for me a week but don't know how I would go about actually doing that. :/

da, but it depends on how your company is filed tax-wise. If you're registered as a sole proprietor (like I am), you legally can't hire anyone until you change to an LLC or INC. idk how you go about setting up an employment process after that but I would imagine either federal or state websites would have free advice for small businesses - or the SBA.

I prefer being a sole proprietor because it's much easier to file my taxes, but god do I want to hire a social media marketer. That way I could focus on the making - I bet that's what fulfillment is doing to you, too. Just ugh can I create now please.

Don't quote me on this bc lol I haven't read the business/tax code, but I'm also a sole proprietorship and feel reasonably sure that you could engage someone as a contractor? Assuming they fit all the rules for contract work and you aren't intending on bringing them on with employee-esque expectations. That would be my goal - much like I might commission another artist to make me a logo, or have someone review a wholesale contract, I'd hire someone to come help me with shipping three times a month for six hours or whatever, with schedule flexibility, and pay them for that time.

hmm, I'm curious now! Because my partner's company does a lot of contract work so I've heard bits and pieces about the legality. I'd have to research, too, but man that would be so useful!

let's look into it, fellow businessanon!

didnt do taxes but i did work in a tax office for a few months, and from my understanding you can hire someone as a sole proprietor -- the term means that you're the only one who owns the business, rather than being the only person that works for it.

the thing with being designated as a sole proprietor is that there's no degree of separation money/tax wise between you and your business, which isn't a big deal for the most part, but if anything legally came up, any damages that come up would affect your own personal assets, which is why sometimes setting and LLC makes sense so if something did happen, it only affects the "company" and not your own personal assets, if that makes sense

i'd still recommend talking to someone about it, though. they'd be able to give you pointed advice towards setting things up that fits best with your goals and whatnot

oh ty anon, that info really helps put things in perspective. e.g. subcontracting a laborer might incur liability in a different way from a media coordinator. Interesting!
