i want to rp so bad, but i keep talking myself out of it. i've realized that my rp drought has to do with thinking i'm not cut out to write. lately when i try to construct sentences, i feel like nothing flows. it all just sounds so wrong and i sit there revising and rewriting everything for hours.

how do you get your writing confidence/drive back, anons?

why do people who ignore my profile and preferences on social media (not just dating sites) get butthurt when i ignore their messages and call me stuck-up/douchey/*ist or *phobic against whatever they are?

like i'll give a preference like "do not message me if you are 35+" or "only interested in speaking with people who know programming, japanese and or philosophy" and i'll get 40 year olds who know nothing about those subjects pissing and whining about how i should just GIVE THEM A CHANCE! they're such COOL peeps! i'm SOOOO missing out!

i'm a guy, so they're not desperate for female attention. and yes, it's all men desperate to be my friends. begging and desperation are anything but respectable.

So US anons, can anyone tell me of personal experiences with either Windstream or NTS Communications as ISPs?

I'm looking to change and those two are pretty much my only other options besides who I have and AT&T who is a hell no based on past shitty experience with them. I'm especially looking for experience with overall reliability of the service, as in not much downtime since I work from home and have to have reliable net.

If a character tends to drop their gs (hanging out vs hangin' out), do you find it annoying if people type it out or not?

I know typing out accents is ... annoying at best (especially if it's so bad that you have to read the passage out loud three times before you manage to get some idea of what they're trying to say), but I've personally always thought of dropping the g as pretty unobtrusive as far as reading goes.

idk about anybody else but i'm pretty fine with it. written accents start getting intolerable for me when i have to put in effort to figure out what i'm reading, and most words are still perfectly legible after a dropped g

anons, what are your RP goals/motivations? do you do it purely for the escapism and pretendy funtimes, or do you do it to sharpen your writing abilities, or...?

one of my own big motivations is getting people interested in the character I'm playing as a way of introducing them to a canon I like. if I get someone to watch my character's canon, I feel like I've done my job.

i really enjoy playing out certain character dynamics, both planning them out and also being surprised by what the other player brings to the table. it's kind of like writing fanfic, but a lot more satisfying for me because i don't necessarily know how the story ends. and ngl it scratches my kink itch so that's a plus too.

i also like looking for people i click well with ic and oocly, and i feel like rp has been the best way for me to do that outside of meeting people irl.

i have some people on plurk who are insufferable about the games they're in and i don't get it

they make "plotting" plurks that are more like them sitting there whining about having nothing to do for a plot, not knowing what to do, having no cr etc. to be clear, these aren't "who wants to plot" plurks. they just consistently whine about the game or how their character has nothing to do.

and every single time, PEOPLE RESPOND AND TRY TO HELP THEM. why do you guys do this?! it just encourages that shitty behavior! what about those plurks makes you want to actually engage someone with such a bad attitude?

the first couple times i read this i missed the "autist" part. i was wondering if you thought you were a fucking pod person or something

if it makes you feel any better, even people not on the spectrum make some pretty spectacular social fuckups sometimes. a lot of "normal" people are assholes, or ditzy, or unfunny, or shy, or any other thousands of combinations of moods and personality traits and circumstances that make them weird or socially stupid sometimes

as long as you're not stabbing someone in the face or acting like a homestuck shipper at a yaoi panel, you're probably doing fine

it bugs me when people use obscure metaphors for incredibly simple things. i feel like super obscure descriptions should be saved for things that are hard to describe otherwise.

like bruh, you didn't have to call a cylindrical hallway a "gun barrel". 'cylindrical hallway' honestly would have been the more effective way to describe it. i don't really think about being in a gun barrel when i'm in an area with rounded architecture, and i'm guessing most people don't, so it's just making the description more confusing.

I grab for the more complicated metaphors when the proper term slips my mind, which is often. It's not so much a purple prose thing (~*her evanescent rubescent oculars coalesced upon the heath*~) and more "Can you draw the..." 'shit shit shit what do you call a curtain again?' "That blocky hang-drape, please?"

And yes, I know it annoys the hell out of people, or at least confuses them. I get so embarrassed about it that I try not to speak up whenever possible because I know something like that is going to slip out at any point.

i'd make sure my journal and tags are set up to make it absolutely clear i am not the same person. probably leave my contact info on my journal so they can verify i am not a crazy wanker.

i'd just play them and hope i can wash some of the bad taste out of people's mouths.

i hate topleveling on tdms as a potential character. i figure most people would prefer someone who tags out rather than just toplevels, but i still feel weird to prefer it so heavily. it's not expected to toplevel as a new character, right? i haven't done a tdm in a long time so idk if the unspoken rules have changed.

i follow the school of thought that it would be downright arrogant and flying in the face of current models to simply assume we are the only intelligent lifeforms within even our sector of the galaxy.

that being said, while we can theorize that planets such as our own exist out there, and that they support intelligent life, we cannot currently prove it, and shit like IFLScience keeps pushing sensationalized ideas that we've already "discovered" intelligent life out there, which is irresponsible.

but what's much more irresponsible is pandering to conspiracy theories and suggesting that we've already been visited by said intelligent life.

basically, i believe in science, in the method, and while theories are strong, we do not currently have proof, and we need to focus on getting that proof first before assuming simply one absolute or the other.
