All the pretty little anons

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I just think it's fun, for the most part. It scratches my fandom itch in a way that caters to my particular interests and talents. I'm terrible at art (don't have the time or inclination to learn it, I should say), mediocre at writing fic, but I'm good at playing characters. I love obsessively analyzing them and slipping into their voice and mindset. There's no other vehicle that's quite the same for that skillset.

One of my issues with writing fic is that I tend to only focus on a small number of characters (sometimes just one) for any one fandom - maybe I want to see some interaction between Harry and Ron but I've only fully analyzed Ron and have no interest in doing so for Harry, so I don't feel confident writing a Harry and Ron fic. But in RP, I can just find a Harry player and we can each contribute the parts we're most confident in, and there's the added joy of uncertainty as to how things are going to play out since I'm not in complete control of the story.

I play a lot of minor characters too, because I like testing the limits of how to flesh them out into complete people with what little canon gave them. It's like an exercise in human psychology and literary analysis, except taken a lot less seriously, and I'm into that.

I wouldn't say getting people interested in my character is one of my primary motivations, but it's one of my favorite bonuses too, anon.
